WATCH: Marlon Davidson UA jersey presentation
ESPN 300 defensive lineman Marlon Davidson received his Under Armour All-America game jersey presented by American Family Insurance on Friday in front of teammates, coaches, faculty and friends at Greenville (Alabama) High School.
The sixth-ranked defensive end and the 37th-ranked player overall in the ESPN 300 said being selected to this game was very special to him.
“It means a lot to me,” Davidson said, “because it means I did everything I could in the past couple years to become the player that I am now today and that has allowed me to be selected for this game.”
Davidson grew up watching the game and admitted there is one player from previous games that stood out to him.
“I remember last year watching Byron Cowart,” Davidson laughed. "He really just got after it in that game and attacked the offensive linemen. I think he ended up with the MVP after his performance. It was a very a impressive thing to watch.”
The 6-foot-3, 280 pound athlete has been committed to Auburn since early in September, but plans to still visit other schools.
"I should be taking a visit this Saturday to Georgia but if not I’m going to reschedule it to after the season. My team is hopefully making it deep in to the playoffs so it will depend how we do and how I’m feeling after the game this week. I might take an unofficial visit to LSU too, but I’m not sure yet."
Q&A with Marlon Davidson
What is your first football memory?
Davidson: My first football memory is from my freshman year, coach said I wasn’t going to start because he didn’t like starting freshmen. Well I ended up starting the entire season and I scored a touchdown on a 48-yard interception return.
If you could start a team with any other player in this class who would it be and why?
Davidson: Of course it would have to be my cousin Lyndell [Wilson]. Because we’re very close and it’s like we share the same kind of future. Of course it would be him.
If you could play 1-on-1 with any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be and why?
Davidson: It would have to be Greg Robinson, the tackle that played at Auburn and now plays for St. Louis. I’d love to go up against him because all the guys at Auburn say he was that guy that no defensive player wanted to go up against. So I said, ‘let me see if I can have some of that guy.'
What number do you wear in high school and is there a reason why you wear that number?
Davidson: I wear No. 47. It’s for the late passing of my mother. She died at the age of 47. I wanted to dedicate my entire senior year to her and all of my accomplishments that I have are dedicated to her.
What is something that not many people know about you?
Davidson: I love watching cartoons. That’s one of my favorite things to do. I like watching Power Rangers and shows like that.
