Boxing divisional rankings: 'Zurdo' Ramirez rises at cruiserweight with win over Billam-Smith

Cruiserweight has proven to be the best weight class for Gilberto Ramirez as "Zurdo" notched a career-best victory on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a unanimous decision over Chris Billam-Smith to unify the WBO and WBA cruiserweight titles.

Ramirez was a titleholder at 168 pounds and showed power at 175 (though he lost to Dmitry Bivol in a title shot) but through three fights at cruiserweight, Ramirez appears to be an imposing force. The Mexican has the size to compete with fellow 200-pounders while maintaining the speed and fluidity of a smaller fighter.

With the victory, Ramirez moved to No. 2 in ESPN's cruiserweight rankings and is primed for a unification bout with No. 1 ranked Jai Opetaia. Noel Mikaelian, who holds the WBC title, moves up to No. 4, while Billam-Smith falls from No. 2 to No. 5.

On the undercard Saturday, Arnold Barboza Jr. earned an upset win over former unified champion Jose Ramirez via decision. And with it, Barboza enters ESPN's junior welterweight rankings at No. 8 while Ramirez falls from No. 7 to No. 10.

William Zepeda stayed on track for a lightweight title shot against Shakur Stevenson with a hard-earned split-decision victory over former titleholder Tevin Farmer. Farmer floored Zepeda in Round 4, and though he lost, Farmer earned another opportunity for a meaningful fight. Zepeda switches spots with Stevenson in the rankings ahead of a possible meeting between the two in February.

Also on the Ramirez vs. Billam-Smith fight card, ESPN's No. 1 ranked strawweight, Oscar Collazo, maintained the top spot at 105 pounds with a seventh-round TKO of Knockout CP Freshmart, who dropped to No. 5.

Finally, on the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul undercard, Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos traded knockdowns in a WBC welterweight title fight that resulted in a draw. Barrios, who was the major betting favorite, kept his WBC title. Barrios drops one spot to No. 5, while Ramos enters at No. 10, replacing Raul Curiel.

ESPN's divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven't competed in the past 12 months -- and don't have a fight scheduled -- will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to re-enter the rankings after his next bout.
