7.49pm Well, that's a wrap for this Test. Quite the drubbing in the final analysis, and quite the admission from Stokes at the post-match... England have been mentally unpicked in this contest so far, and that is not how they thought this tour would pan out. The Bazball bubble has been well and truly burst. It's about finding the right men to stand up and be counted with this tour on the precipice now. Can England bowl quick and bat long when when there's something on the line next time? We'll find out in Adelaide. From Miller, Alex, Alan, Venkat and the team, good night!

Time for the presentations:

The Player of the Match is Mitchell Starc... again. Eight wickets and 77 runs... "Two wins yeah, waited a bit longer than the first Test but hard-fought and good to be on the right side of it. Takes longer in the mornings at this stage. We've seen on this ground the pink ball goes soft early. We bowled well across both innings, key to get a lead. Pleased for Nes on his home ground. I try to do the same things, doesn't take much to get ready to go... bowl quick and try to hit the stumps. Nice to put a partnership together, better to bowl later in the day so to get through as long as we did with the bat was key to push the innings back. And we got the rewards. Too old [to be a proper allrounder]. Don't know how Stokesy and the like do it."

Ben Stokes: "Very disappointing. A lot comes down to not being able to stand up to the pressure of this game, this format. We've let the control slip away in small passages, very disappointing given the ability of the players in that dressing-room, need to think harder mentally, and show more fight.

"If I could put my finger on it, but it's definitely not a skill thing. So got to dig a bit deeper and find out what we seem to keep doing. Not being able to execute your skill is something that you can live with... we weren't able to put Australia back under pressure. We'll have some conversations that I'll keep to the dressing room. Lots of communication, we see what Australia are looking to throw at us. It's a constant theme at the moment, when it's a pressure moment, Australia are outdoing us. Australia isn't a place for weak men, and we're not weak. What else have we got to do? We've got to win these two games. we've been here before, have to sort it out pretty quick."

Steve Smith... again.. "Guys toiled hard, good partnership, got them out and chased 60. Great day. First two days were pretty even, game turned when we were able to extend to get the new ball under lights, that was crucial for us. It can be tricky with the pink ball, it changes really quickly and you have to adapt. What Neser did today was exceptional, with the keeper up to the stumps. Been on a lot of tours, worked hard. Carey is a freak, up to the stumps, just ends up in his hands, no fear. His gloves are sensational. My catch was up there... standing quite wide, saw it late... I'll remember that one. Captaincy [back to Cummins] ... it's all his."

***

Steve Smith: "Felt right to play a few shots, he was bowling pretty quick, and a storm coming round, so a chance to play a few shots. What was said stays on the field, good banter, good competitor and he comes hard at you. Tail was unbelievable, gave us the opportunity to bat into the dark. You never know what will happen with Stokesy at the crease, good to see them off with only 60 to chase."

Josh Inglis: "A great game of cricket, very clinical. Timing is a big thing in pink-ball cricket, when you're batting and bowling. Had a great time with the crowd, with my English background... [Stokes run-out] haven't stopped watching it yet... oof, what a piece of work that is! Still three games to come and England are a terrific team. Looking forward to Adelaide."

7.31pm Australia go 2-0 up. Australia charging. England had any momentum snuffed by Smith's electric 23 not out off nine balls. That was unreal. England have plenty of soul searching to do. There were handshakes all round. Even between Smith and Archer.
