INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Rocket Legs set a record for 1\ miles
on Hollywood Park's cushion track, finishing in 2:01.79 to edge
Fire Wood by three-quarters of a length Friday in the $54,000
feature race.
Rocket Legs, ridden by Mike Smith and carrying 121 pounds, paid
$5.60, $3 and $2.20 in winning for the third time in his last four
races. The race was scheduled to be run on turf, but was moved to
the main track following morning rain.
Rocket Legs' victory was worth $32,400, raising the 3-year-old
Kentucky-bred son of Dynaformer's career total to $108,474.
Fire Wood returned $6 and $3.40, and Niagara Causeway paid $3.40
to show.
