ZURICH -- A minute of silence will be held before international soccer matches Tuesday and Wednesday after 19 fans died in a stadium stampede in the Ivory Coast.
World soccer's governing body FIFA is investigating the stampede at Abidjan's Felix Houphouet-Boigny arena on Sunday before the World Cup qualifier with Malawi.
"The minute's silence is a mark of respect for the African football family and in memory of the persons who lost their lives outside of the stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast," FIFA said Tuesday in a statement.
