Hours after UCLA announced that men's basketball coach Mick Cronin would not be able to coach Wednesday night against Alabama State due to COVID-19 protocols, the Bruins were forced to postpone the game altogether. UCLA's announcement came less than an hour before its scheduled tip-off. The school offered no further details, only that the game would "not be played as scheduled due to COVID-19 protocols." Associate head coach Darren Savino was expected to serve as acting coach for the game. It was not immediately known whether the postponement came as a result of positive tests or multiple players and staff being deemed close contacts with someone who tested positive. UCLA (8-1) is scheduled to play North Carolina on Saturday as part of the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas. The status of that game is now uncertain. The fourth-ranked Bruins earned a forfeit victory earlier this month, when Washington was unable to play on Dec. 5 due to COVID-19 issues. All that said, they are riding a four-game winning streak with stingy defense, allowing an average of just 56 points per game during that stretch.
