KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton plans to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs on their practice squad, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday. Thornton was waived on Saturday by the New England Patriots and cleared waivers Monday. He had interest from more than a dozen teams, the source told Fowler. A 2022 second-round pick out of Baylor with blazing speed, Thornton never emerged as the top threat the Patriots hoped he would become after he clocked a 4.28 time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Thornton played in six games this season for the Patriots, with one start. He totaled four catches for 47 yards. Overall, he appeared in 28 games (13 starts) for the Patriots and had 39 receptions for 385 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs, who lost Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice with injuries, continue to look for help at wide receiver. They signed veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster shortly before the start of the season and traded for DeAndre HopkinsĀ last month. ESPN's Mike Reiss contributed to this report.
