Twelve points from Ruan Pienaar helped Ulster win 22-11 at Treviso in the new Guinness Pro 12 season.
Pienaar scored a try and notched seven points with the boot in a game the visitors led ever since a fourth minute converted try from Luke Marshall.
Tommaso Allan struck two first-half penalties to keep Treviso in touch, but after the break ulster pulled away through tries from Rob Herring and Pienaar.
Treviso did have a try but it came far too little too late, Tommaso Benvenuti scoring in stoppage time at the end of the second half.
