Nicolas Sanchez scored a huge 21 points to lead the Jaguares to a strong 36-24 win over second string Lions side in Buenos Aires on Sunday morning (AEDT).
Similar to last season, Lions coach Johan Ackerman chose to take a largely young and inexperienced side to face the Argentinian side.
The Jaguares were on song early and took a strong 21-7 lead into the halftime break.
Four tries from fullback JoaquĂn Tuculet, wing Ramiro Moyano, centre JerĂłnimo de la Fuente and SĂĄnchez gave the Jags a good lead, but the Lions hit back with four tries of their own through Warren Whiteley (2), replacement prop Jacques van Rooyen and replacement hooker Malcolm Marx.
But it was Sanchez's pinpoint kicking that gave the Jags the edge in the end.
