The Lions ended the Stormers 100% start to the Super Rugby campaign in a 29-16 victory in Cape Town.
Lions struck first when Franco Mostert touched down when the Stormers couldn't stop an attacking maul five minutes in. The Stormers, with a 100% record on the line struck back through Dillyn Leyds.
The winger, who saw his incredible out the back pass go viral last week, gathered his own chip and chase to score.
A frantic opening 15 minutes came in an end as Harold Vorster, a sixth minute replacement for the injured Rohan Janse van Rensburg, sliced through the Stormers' defence to touch down.
Elton Jantjies converted but penalties from Robert du Preez and SP Marais -- either side of a yellow card for Jaco Kriel -- put the Stormers into a 13-12 lead. The yellow was contentious, as Kriel's elbow made contact with du Preez's jaw, but there was an argument that he was committed to the tackle.
The Lions finished the half the stronger with Jantjies kicking a penalty before the Kriel returned from his 10 minutes in the sin-bin to touch down two minutes from the break to push the lead to 22-13 at half-time.
The second half lacked the intensity of the opening 14, and it took a half hour for SP Marais to claim the first points of the half, kicking a penalty to narrow the gap to 22-16.
Their joy was short lived as Sylvian Mahuza crossed in the corner at the other end as the Lions ended the Stormers winning start to the campaign.
