Rookie wing Aphiwe Dyantyi scored a brace of tries to help the Lions record a 47-27 win over the ill-disciplined Jaguares at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.
It wasn't the greatest of starts for the home team, who made many unforced errors in the opening quarter of the match. They were 10-0 behind after 17 minutes following Emiliano Boffelli's converted try, as well as a long distance penalty by the big winger.
But the Lions hit back with 19 unanswered points before the break. Dyantyi, who scored a top individual try last weekend against the Sharks, scored his second try of the season in the 26th minute.
The Lions then took the lead four minutes later when the referee Jaco Peyper sent Bautista Delguy the sin bin for a deliberate knock down. Peyper also awarded a penalty, as he felt the Lions would have scored if it wasn't for the knock down.
The Lions went into the break 19-10 up when fullback Andries Coetzee profited from a spectacular offload by the Lionel Mapoe, who enjoyed another top game in the centres for the home side.
The Lions increased their lead six minutes into the second half when right wing Sylvian Mahuza showed his pace to out-flank the Jaguares after a lovely rehearsed move by the inside backs.
However, it would be Dyantyi who would score the try of the day -- his third of the season. The left wing showed extreme pace and fancy footwork to beat the Jaguares' defence, before running in a lovely solo try.
The Lions scored again in the 63rd minute through Rohan Janse van Rensburg, but Bautista Delguy scored twice to put the Lions' bonus point in serious jeopardy.
However, the Lions' captain Warren Whiteley stepped his way through the Jaguares' defence with two minutes to go make sure that his team leaves the park with five points.
