If you are wondering why there was confusion about whether Redskins TE Chris Cooley was going to be out for the season or just four weeks, you have to understand the audible called in the last 24 hours.
Cooley was headed for an operation on his fractured ankle that was going to require a six-to-eight week recovery, effectively eating up the rest of his season. Instead, Cooley went to the best ankle doctor in the country on Wednesday, according to a source. Dr. Mark Myerson of Baltimore was able to insert three screws into Cooley's ankle that didn't require the skin of the ankle to be cut. The recovery time is four weeks, but it would have been longer if the procedure was more extensive.
The end for Jones? By placing left tackle Walter Jones on the injured reserve list, the Seahawks effectively ended his potential Hall of Fame career. Drafted in the mid-1990s, Jones, Jonathan Ogden, Orlando Pace, Tra Thomas and a few others helped the passing game evolve because they were so good at handling an opponent's best pass-rusher one-on-one. That allowed the tight end to float into passing routes more often and open up more three- and four-receiver sets. In my opinion, Ogden and Jones are certain Hall of Famers of that group.
