CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned goaltender Corey Crawford to the American Hockey League's Rockford IceHogs, the team announced on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Crawford appeared in one preseason game with the Hawks, recording 24 saves on 30 shots in the team's 6-2 loss against the Capitals on Sept. 23. Crawford, a native of Montreal, Quebec, also registered four saves on five shots in 29:32 of action in Chicago's 9-2 won over HC Davos in Zurich, Switzerland on Sept. 28 as part of the Victoria Cup.
Chicago will open the North American portion of their regular-season schedule when they face off against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. before hosting the Colorado Avalanche in their home opener on Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
