ANAHEIM, Calif. -- James Nunnally scored 15 points and Chris Devine had 14 points and six rebounds to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 73-64 victory over Cal State Fullerton in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference tournament Thursday.
Will Brew Jr. added 13 points and Sam Phippen for the fourth-seeded Gauchos (16-14), who have won eight of nine and will play top-seeded Cal State Northridge in the semifinals Friday.
Josh Akognon scored 23 points for the seventh-seeded Titans (15-17), the defending tournament champions. Jacques Streeter added 15 points and six assists, and Aaron Thompson grabbed eight rebounds.
Fullerton held a 56-53 lead with 5:09 to play when Santa Barbara used a 12-1 spree to move ahead 65-57 with 56.6 seconds remaining. The Titans failed to score a basket in a span of 7:05.
Akognon made a driving layup, got fouled and made the ensuing free throw to narrow the deficit to 65-60 with 45 seconds left.
