AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A look at Friday's second round of the 71st
Masters:<
^Leading:@ Brett Wetterich and Tim Clark, at 2-under 142.
^Just behind:@ Vaughn Taylor, a shot back at 143.
^Tough going:@ It was the highest score by a second-round leader
since Craig Stadler and Curtis Strange led at even par in 1982.
^Where's Tiger?:@ Tiger Woods hit two balls in the water but
still shot 74 and was five shots back at 147.
^Defending champion:@ Phil Mickelson rallied for a 73 that left
him seven shots behind at 149.
^Fast fact:@ The largest deficit ever made up over the final 36
holes was eight strokes, by Jack Burke in 1956.
^Young gun:@ Wetterich is only the eighth rookie in Masters
history to have a piece of the 36-hole lead, and the first since
Chris DiMarco in 2001.
^Noteworthy:@ Sixty players made the cut, the most since 61 did
it in 1993. None of the five amateurs made the cut.
^Course stuff:@ Augusta National played slightly easier in the
second round, with an average score of 75.62. On a course where
back nine eagles are generally plentiful, only three have been made
on the second nine in two rounds.
^Tee times:@ Woods, Paul Casey 1:20 p.m.; Wetterich, Clark, 3
p.m.
^Quoteworthy:@ "It just asks too many questions that's there no
answer to." -- Lee Westwood on Augusta National.
^Television:@ Saturday, 2:30-7 p.m., CBS.
