MILAN, May 23 - Italy's Filippo Pozzato has quit
the Giro d'Italia because of a knee injury sustained in a fall
on the 12th stage, his Katusha team said on Saturday.
"I feel pain in my right knee. I've talked with the team
management and we have decided that it's best to try to totally
recover for future races," said Pozzato, a disappointing 51st
overall ahead of Saturday's 14th stage to Bologna.
British sprinter Mark Cavendish, who took Friday's 13th
stage for a hat-trick of wins, has been pulled out of the race
by Team Columbia so he can prepare for July's Tour de France.
