Morgan St. 78, Coppin St. 50

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Jamar Smith scored 23 points, reserve Reggie Holmes added 21 and Morgan State hit 10 of 19 3-point attempts in a 78-50 victory over Coppin State on Saturday.

Jermaine Bolden contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Gene Johnson had 14 rebounds for the Bears (4-3, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who notched their second-most lopsided victory ever over their crosstown rivals.

A three-point play and a 3-pointer by Smith ignited a 24-2 run to close the first half as Morgan State turned a 10-point deficit into a 32-20 halftime advantage. Bolden's 3-pointer gave the Bears the lead for good at 21-20 with 4:05 remaining in the half.

A'Daeron Duncan led Coppin State (3-5, 0-1) with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Eagles shot 27.8 percent from the floor, compared with 49.2 percent for the Bears.

Coppin State cut the margin to 42-33 on a basket by Chuka Iloegbu with 13:03 to play, but Morgan State answered with a 9-0 run.
