DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Toronto Blue Jays reliever Dirk Hayhurst was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday and is expected to miss most of the season after having right shoulder surgery Feb. 5.
The 28-year-old Hayhurst damaged the labrum in his throwing shoulder during offseason workouts. Toronto signed him as a free agent just before training camp a year ago. He spent most of last season with Triple-A Las Vegas. In 22 2/3 innings with the Blue Jays, he had a 2.78 ERA with 13 strikeout and two walks.
His book, "The Bullpen Gospels: Major League Dreams of a Minor-League Veteran," is due to be released March 30.
