UA jersey tour: QB Malik Henry

WATCH: Malik Henry UA jersey presentation

The Under Armour All-America Game selection tour presented by American Family Insurance made its final stop in Southern California on Wednesday, as Malik Henry, the nation's No. 1 overall quarterback, received his jersey.

"I've been watching [the game] growing up and I've always wanted to be able to call myself an All-American," Henry said of the Under Armour All-America Game. "I think every high school player wants to say they played in an All-American game."

Henry will get his opportunity this January, then will look to take the next step of his football career at Florida State. Henry committed to the Seminoles last November and hasn't wavered in his decision. His high school career has been a different story, as Henry transferred from Oaks Christian to Westlake (Calif.) to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, then made a move back to California after releasing a statement that read in part: "After conversations with my parents and the coaching staff at IMG it was agreed that it was best for both parties for me not to return to IMG."

Henry declined to discuss what led to the transfer, but said he's looking forward to the fresh start he's been afforded at Long Beach (Calif.) Poly. His first pass this past Friday resulted in a 64-yard touchdown, though the Jackrabbits came up short against national power Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.

"It's not difficult," Henry said of the transition. "I pick up an offense pretty fast and I think I fit in with the guys pretty well. The only thing is having to leave my friends at IMG. I miss being around those guys and playing with those guys, just because it's a different atmosphere out there. That was the first time I've ever experienced it and I like it. That's why I can't wait to go back to Florida and visit them and play with my guys at Florida State. They have the same grit and same toughness out there and that's what I really like. I can't wait to play with teammates who have the same goal as me, and that's to be a scholar-athlete and excel at the next level."

Seven questions with Malik Henry

What player has stood out to you for his performance in an Under Armour All-America Game?

"Blake Barnett. I think he did a really outstanding job last year. I kind of looked up to him as one of the best quarterbacks in last year's class, so I think he did a really good job."

If you could start a team with one prospect from the 2016 class, who would it be?

"There are so many great athletes it's really hard to choose. I don't want to say anybody because there are so many I could pick."

What is your earliest football memory?

"I played for the Inglewood Jets Pop Warner team and I hated getting hit and I was kind of scared of it. My dad said if I don't get back in there then I wasn't playing football. We were doing hitting drills and I really didn't want to do it. The first time I went I got smacked and I was crying and saying I'm done. I'm thinking I'm done with football. But he said, 'You get back up and get back in there.' I think I did the same hitting drill probably 10 or 15 times against the same person until I knocked him down."

Who did you idolize growing up?

"I don't really idolize any football players. I just watch quarterbacks and try to take some of the special things they do and see where it can fit into my game. Michael Jordan probably had the biggest impact on me growing up. I always wanted to go to North Carolina just because of Michael Jordan. I look at myself like him -- I'm a baseball player also and he's a dual-sport athlete. He's a great leader, a great player and I want to be one of the best to ever play this game. Russell Wilson, also, his escape ability and his pocket presence. I don't think I'm a dual threat, but I can get out of the pocket like him."

If you could take on any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be?"

"One thing I would love to do is at Elite 11 they had us do a Pressure Chamber [a two-minute drill including throws from various distances and looks]. I'd love to go against some of the elite quarterbacks like [Colin] Kaepernick, [Russell] Wilson, [Tom] Brady and [Peyton] Manning [in the Pressure Chamber]. That would be really fun."

Why do you wear your number (16)?

"I just wanted to be different. My base number was three when I was little. Sixteen was just handed to me at Westlake. I kind of just stuck with that throughout high school. Going forward I'm going to wear No. 16 at Florida State also."

What is something about you people might not know?

"I love producing music, making beats and stuff like that. At Oaks Christian we had a digital recording class and that was probably my favorite class to go to. I gave some of my beats to my friends and they rolled with it; they made a couple songs. I think I'm really good at it, so if football doesn't work out, look out for me being the next Diddy or something."
