ESPN 300 offensive lineman, Deonte Brown received his Under Armour All-America game jersey presented by American Family Insurance on Wednesday in front of teammates, coaches, faculty and friends at Austin High School in Decatur, Alabama.
The 81st-ranked player in the country said he was humbled by the selection to the prestigious game.
"This is a dream come true,” Brown said. “I never thought that I was going to be able to have the opportunity to play in a game like that amongst all of the other great high school football players that are in my class.
"I’ve always watched the game and remember, like, when Jadeveon Clowney played and I just remember how good he was and just how dominant he was in the game. It’s just a great feeling to be playing in this game.”
Brown, who has been committed to Alabama since April, said he has never wavered on his pledge to the Crimson Tide.
"My commitment is very solid,” Brown said. “I don’t plan on visiting any other schools or things like that. I’m definitely solid."
Brown is one of three ESPN 300 offensive linemen who have committed to Alabama, the others include offensive tackle Jonah Williams and guard Chris Owens.
Q&A with Deonte Brown
What is your first football memory?
Brown: Back in middle school when I was playing football, I got beat around the end by a guy who played at our rival school and he sacked the quarterback real bad. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t let nobody else get by me like that. So I worked hard and it’s kind of paid off.
If you could start a team with any other player in this class who would it be and why?
Brown: My boy Chris Owens. He seems like a very good athlete and I think he’s very cool … I like his personality. I watched film on him and he’s a real good player.
If you could play 1-on-1 with any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be and why?
Brown: LeBron James in basketball. It would just be a dream of mine to play against LeBron James.
What number do you wear in high school and is there a reason why you wear that number?
Brown: I wear No. 71. It’s because of Walter Jones, the left tackle that played for the Seahawks back in the day. I just like the way he played the game.
What is something that not many people know about you?
Brown: I like watching NASCAR. I just like watching them compete and how fast the car goes. My favorite driver would be [Dale] Earnhardt Jr.
