WATCH: Kyle Davis UA jersey presentation
ESPN 300 wide receiver Kyle Davis received his Under Armour All-America game jersey presented by American Family Insurance on Friday in front of teammates, coaches, faculty and friends at Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
The No. 1-ranked wide receiver and the 31st-ranked player overall in the ESPN 300 said it has always been a dream of his to play in the prestigious All-American game.
“It's always a great blessing to receive such a highly respected accolade,” Davis said. “Ever since I was little I would watch the games on TV every year and see all the top players in the nation compete against the best of the best. It's just amazing to know that some kid like me will be doing the same.”
Davis, who plans to visit Tennessee for its game against Georgia this weekend, has three finalists of Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee and will make his college decision on Oct. 23.
“All three of those schools have good football programs, so for me -- right now -- everything comes down to the academic standpoint of things,” Davis said. "I'm not too worried about the football part.”
The physical 6-foot-3, 218-pound pass-catcher has totaled 56 receptions for 1,077 yards and 13 touchdowns in his high school career.
Q&A with Kyle Davis
What is your first football memory?
Davis: My first year, I was six and I have bad asthma. We were on our own two-yard line and we ran '28 toss' and I ran my first touchdown for 98 yards but then I couldn't breathe at the 20 so started walking at the 10. I don't think they've ever seen a fat kid move so fast.
If you could start a team with any other player in this class who would it be and why?
Davis: I would have to say my football team and other great players like Jacob Eason, Shea Patterson, Levonta Taylor, Chad Clay and Elijah Holyfield. Also, my team from The Opening -- Sam Bruce, and Isaac Nauta. We'd have rings all four years of our high school and college careers.
If you could play 1-on-1 with any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be and why?
Davis: I’d have to say Richard Sherman or Darrelle Revis, just to compete and see how I would do against the best of the best in the NFL.
What number do you wear in high school and is there a reason why you wear that number?
Davis: I wear the number 10. Because it is a number of completion and I'm a perfectionist and I always want to go plus one.
Is there a memorable college game that you have attended?
Davis: The Auburn/UGA game my sophomore year. When Ricardo [Louis] caught that game-winning pass because I was right behind the end zone walking to the locker room, and it was my first Auburn game.
