WATCH: Nick Bosa UA jersey presentation
It’s only natural that ESPN 300 defensive end Nick Bosa would be compared to older brother Joey. Nick is committed to Ohio State where Joey plays, they both play along the defensive line and both were highly rated prospects out of high school.
Those comparisons aren’t a hindrance or nuisance to the younger Bosa, as he feels it’s a positive to be mentioned alongside his older brother.
“The comparisons are definitely good," Nick said. "He’s looking at being drafted in the first round next year, so it can’t be a bad thing. I do think we play a lot alike, but I think throughout my college career, people will start to see the difference between us. I’m definitely honored to being compared to him.”
The No. 3-ranked prospect in the 2016 class was also honored to be presented with his Under Armour All-America game jersey on Monday as one of the top-ranked prospects in the game.
“When I was in middle school and a kid, I always watched the game and looked up to the players who were in it,” Bosa said. “I played football my whole life and I always wanted to be at this level in high school. Just to finally be here, it’s crazy to think that I’ve gotten here.”
The All America game marks one of the final events Bosa will participate in before heading up to Ohio State to follow in his brother’s footsteps.
If the older Bosa decides to enter the NFL draft, the two won’t have the opportunity to play on the same team as Buckeyes, but Joey has already helped younger brother Nick with his future college career.
“Just him being at Ohio State allowed me to get to know the coaches better, and I’m definitely big on being comfortable," Nick said. "I couldn’t imagine leaving home and it’s coming soon. It seems like there is a very good family atmosphere up there and [d-line] Coach [Larry] Johnson is one of the best people I’ve ever met, so that’s a big factor.”
Q&A with Nick Bosa:
What players are you looking forward to competing with or against at the UA All America game?
Against all the top offensive linemen. The only one I’m really thinking about right now is playing with Jonathon Cooper who will be the other defensive end at Ohio State with me. So I’m really excited to play with him and see what he’s made of.
If you could start a team with any other player in your class, who would it be?
Sam Bruce. I’d pick him because he’s a playmaker. Having him on the field is dangerous at all times. You give him the ball and he can make a play.
What was your earliest football memory?
My second year playing the coaches saw me and put me on offensive line right away because I was a pretty big kid. Ten minutes later I went up to the offensive line coach and asked if I could move to defensive line and he said yes. I never switched since, so it worked out. I was probably eight or nine at the time. It worked out pretty nice.
Which football player did you watch as a kid?
I was a Colts fan, so I watched Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis a lot. They were fun to watch. Now I like to watch Tamba Hali for the Chiefs.
If you could take on any pro in their sport, who would it be?
I would go one on one with Gronk and see if he could run-block me.
Why do you wear your number (97)?
My dad wore it when he played and my brother wore it his junior and senior year of high school. When he left I took it my sophomore year, so it’s been a tradition for us. When he leaves Ohio State I’ll get it then.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m big into electronic music events. That’s pretty much my hobby, I go to those and just enjoy the music. [Also] I can juggle, if that works.
