WATCH: Josh Hammond UA jersey presentation
Florida commitment Josh Hammond was presented with an Under Armour All-America jersey on Tuesday afternoon, in a ceremony presented by American Family Insurance and attended by friends, family and members of the Hallandale High student body.
The No. 90-ranked prospect in the class of 2016 said being selected to the Under Armour All-America Game was a dream, with an understanding that thousands of players from around the country would love to be in the same position.
“It really means a lot,” said Hammond. “Not many people get selected to play in the Under Armour Game. Growing up watching the game, I dreamed about playing in it. It really is a dream come true.”
The No. 12-ranekd receiver in the country is an Under Armour All-America Game first from Hallandale. Hammond sees it as an opportunity to help put his community on the map.
“It’s a blessing. Not a lot of people from Hallandale go a lot of places. To have the opportunity to help put Hallandale and the school on the map means a lot. Just to be able to represent South Florida high school football and Hallandale High is a great honor, and something I take seriously,”
Six questions with Josh Hammond:
What player are you looking forward to competing with or against in the Under Armour All-America Game?
I don’t have a list. Just getting the chance to be around all the guys, compete and test myself against the best is what I’m looking forward to.
What is your earliest football memory?
Probably scoring my first TD playing for the Davie Broncos when I was in the eighth grade.
Which football player did you watch as a kid?
I didn’t really know much about football growing up, but my brother (former Florida receiver and current Kansas City Chiefs wideout Frankie Hammond) played and I followed him. I didn’t start following football until I was in the eighth grade.
If you could take on any pro in their sport, who would it be and why?
Probably LeBron James because it’s LeBron James. I’m very competitive so it would probably get heated. That would be fun.
What number do your wear, and why?
I wear 5 or 12. The reason is my mom’s birthday is on May 12.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I [roller] skate. When I tell people that I skate, they don’t believe me. I can actually skate well. I have been skating since I was six or seven.
