WATCH: Edward Oliver UA jersey presentation
Five-star defensive tackle and Houston commitment Edward Oliver was presented with an Under Armour All-America jersey on Tuesday afternoon in a ceremony presented by American Family Insurance, attended by friends, family and classmates at Westfield High in Spring, Texas.
For the No. 5-ranked prospect overall in the class of 2016, the occasion was cherished.
“It really is an honor,” said Oliver. “We are an Under Armour school here at Westfield, and to play in the Under Armour Game means a lot to me and the school. It’s become kind of a tradition for the best Westfield players to play in the Under Armour Game, and Tyrie [Cleveland] and I are continuing the tradition.”
The 6-foot-2, 283-pound defensive tackle with a relentless approach to the game likes the idea of ending his high school career playing in a prestigious game with a friend and teammate.
“It means everything that I get to play my last high school game with my friend Tyrie. We can get used to the speed of the game at the next level and the talent level that we will face every day in college football.”
Oliver has remained solidly committed to the hometown Houston Cougars despite continued interest from many of the nations best.
“I’m committed to Houston. I do plan to take all five of my official visits. I have visited Oklahoma, and will go to Houston obviously. I also plan to visit Ole Miss and Baylor. And maybe LSU.”
The 2016 Under Armour All-America Game will be played on January 2, 2016 at the Citrus Bowl on ESPN2. Practices and the American Family Insurance Skills Challenge will be televised on ESPNU.
