ESPN 300 linebacker Michael Divinity received his Under Armour All-America game jersey presented by American Family Insurance on Wednesday morning in front of teammates, coaches, faculty and friends at John Ehret High School in Marrero, Louisiana.
The fourth-ranked outside linebacker in the ESPN 300 and 46th-ranked player overall said being selected to this game was a dream come true.
"It means a lot to me," Divinity said. "Because I never knew that this day would come; I never knew I would be this highly recruited and be able to play in an All-American game.
"I'm very honored. Having coach Don Cox as a DB coach at my school and then him being a coach at the game, it's just an honor for him to be able to coach me in the game. I'm very privileged to play in this game."
The 6-2, 213-pound prospect has watched the Under Armour game over the past few years and said some of his fondest memories of previous years were watching other LSU commits and prospects from New Orleans play in the game.
"I remember watching Leonard Fournette, he was a beast," Divinity laughed. "I remember watching Fournette commit to LSU and Speedy Noil put it on for New Orleans and then commit to Texas A&M. I remember watching guys like Jamal Adams, and I remember thinking that he would be a big part of LSU. I watched some of the practices on ESPNU and I just liked how some of the defensive guys like Arden Key and Kevin Toliver and they were just demolishing the offense."
The talented linebacker has only been committed to LSU since October, but said his commitment to the Tigers is firm.
"I'm solid," Divinity said about his commitment to the Tigers. "It just feels like family when I'm there. I have a wonderful relationship with all the coaches and every time I go there I have a smile on my face. I just really get along with the team and the staff."
Q&A with Michael Divinity
If you could start a team with any other player in this class, who would it be and why?
Divinity: It would be my cousin De'Jon Harris. He's not highly recruited but he's a great athlete and can play offense or defense and with his type of mentality, he's just great.
If you could go one-on-one with any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be and why?
Divinity: I'd have to say Michael Jordan in basketball. I like his mentality and the way he thinks. I like how he played the game.
What number do you wear in high school and is there a particular reason you wear that number?
Divinity: I wear No. 35. It was like the only number available to me when I transferred so I decided not to change it yet.
What are you looking forward to the most down in Orlando during the Under Armour All-America game week?
Divinity: I'm mostly looking to just have fun and meet future teammates and see players who I'm going to to go against. It's just going to be nice to see other players that are just as talented as me. Should be a fun time.
What is something about yourself that not many people would know?
Divinity: I'm a fun and caring guy. I'm a great person to talk to, easy to get to know. My favorite show is The Boondocks. My favorite food is pork and beans and fried shrimp.
