Augustus leads the way with 22
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Even playing without a head coach, LSU
took a quick 10-0 lead and never trailed against Arizona.
"I was very pleased with the way we jumped out in the game,"
said Pokey Chatman, LSU's associate coach, of the Lady Tigers'
76-66 win on Sunday.
LSU head coach Sue Gunter missed the game with the flu. Chatman
filled in, along with assistant coaches Bob Starkey and Carla
Berry.
Seimone Augustus led LSU (12-2) with 22 points and eight
rebounds. Doneeka Hodges scored 18 points, hitting four 3-pointers,
and had eight rebounds.
Dee-Dee Wheeler led Arizona (11-3) with 25 points. Shawntinice
Polk had 14 points and 12 rebounds and CoCoa Sanford had 17 points
with seven rebounds.
The Lady Tigers outshot Arizona 45.5 percent to 35.3 percent
from the field in the first half and led 39-27 at the break.
LSU had a seven point run to open the second half and led 62-37
with 10:28 remaining.
LSU finished the game shooting 27-of-65 from the field, or 41.5
percent. The Lady Tigers hit 18-of-21 free throws, or 85.7 percent,
and hit 4-of-8 3-pointers.
Arizona hit 26-of-66 shots from the field, or 39.4 percent. The
Wildcats hit 12-of-15, or 80 percent, from the line and 2-of-7
3-pointers.
Wendlyn Jones scored 15 points with five rebounds for LSU, Hanna
Biernacka had seven rebounds and Tameka Johnson had 11 assists.
