Four-star quarterback Troy Huhn, ESPN's No. 10 pocket passer in the 2026 cycle, announced his commitment to Virginia Tech on Monday, reuniting with coach James Franklin as the latest former Penn State pledge to join the Hokies' incoming recruiting class.
Huhn, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect from San Marcos, California, began Monday as the top uncommitted quarterback in the SC Next 2026 ESPN 300.
Initially committed to Penn State in June 2024, Huhn decommitted on Oct. 16 -- four days after the program fired Franklin. Huhn's decision to join the Hokies arrived hours after Cole Bergeron, the nation's 34th-ranked pocket passer, decommitted from Virginia Tech on Monday.
Huhn, No. 178 in the SC Next 300, competed in the Elite 11 Finals in June and projects as a prototypical, big-armed pocket passer at the next level. He completed 75% of his passes for 2,438 yards and 29 touchdowns and added eight rushing scores in his senior season at California's Mission Hills High School.
He took an official visit to Virginia Tech on Nov. 22 and drew additional late interest from Stanford.
Huhn's pledge continues a run of former Penn State commits into the Hokies' 22026 class since they hired Franklin, who spent 12 seasons with the Nittany Lions. In addition to three-star linebacker Mathieu Lamah, who also flipped Monday, those include No. 13 running back Messiah Mickens (No. 141 overall), athlete Pierce Petersohn (No. 293) and offensive line pledges Marlen Bright and Roseby Lubintus.
Virginia Tech's count of ex-Penn State pledges rose to eight on Tuesday with four-star commitments from wide receiver Davion Brown (No. 109 overall) and offensive guard Benjamin Eziuka (No. 300).
Brown, a 6-foot-2 pass catcher from Richmond, Virginia, became the nation's top uncommitted wide receiver when he pulled his pledge from the Nittany Lions in October. He joins as the Hokies' top-ranked 2026 pledge following November visits to Maryland and Virginia Tech.
Eziuka, who had been committed to Penn State since June, arrives as the Hokies' eighth offensive line pledge in the 2026 class.
Another Penn State-linked recruit -- safety Matt Sieg -- remains among the Hokies' top targets.
Elsewhere Monday, four-star offensive tackle Thomas Wilder (No. 222) rejoined Virginia Tech's incoming class, more than two months after he decommitted from the program in September. The No. 7 overall recruit in the state of Virginia in 2026, Wilder will arrive as the Hokies' third-ranked 2026 signee when the early signing period opens Wednesday.
