TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M has announced several self-imposed penalties relating to secondary violations of NCAA rules.
Athletic director Milton Overton Jr. said in a release Monday that the department failed to properly administer student-athlete eligibility and other requirements between 2010-11 and 2013-14. An investigation was conducted by the university, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the NCAA.
The school has placed itself on three years of probation but expects the NCAA to announce an additional year since it was identified in a 2006 report.
FAMU will not lose scholarships, suspend coaches or have any postseason bans extended.
The football team is banned this season from competing in the FCS playoffs due to Academic Progress Rates below the NCAA baseline. FAMU will also pay a one-time fine of $153,255.
