Hayley Matthews, the West Indies captain is also the Player of the Match: We probably knew we did not do as well as we wanted to do in the first game. We went back and analyzed (what went wrong). The girls were really hungry to turn things around and it showed in the way we started (today). (On her thoughts when they dropped Mandhana thrice) When we looked at the score, we felt we had it under control. Smriti was playing a great knock but we felt if we could finish off well, we could keep them to a respectable total. Kudos to players like Dottin (who came back and kept them down). We felt 160 was around par, we were happy with what they got in the end. Felt they got 10 runs too many than what we would have liked, but it felt like a really chaseable target.

Smriti Mandhana, India captain: T20 cricket is like that, you have one really good day and then have that sort of a game (like tonight). The conditions changed massively after the 7-8th over of the first innings. They batted really well. Our execution could have been better. We will work really hard and come back next game. For the first seven-eight overs, there was a bit of moisture. The kind of batting we could do in the first game, the same shots were not coming off tonight. We had to be a little more sensible and then start launching. We had a good launchpad. Richa batted extremely well, we could have scored 10-15 runs more. Even me, getting out at the wrong time, I could have stayed (at the crease) more. Going forward, we will have to pride ourselves on executing what we want to execute. It (the dew) was not there as much in the first ten overs of their fielding. Cricket is a game where you cannot complain. We knew dew was going to be there. We have to put our hand up and figure out where to bowl when dew is there and even (be better) at fielding. Tomorrow is an off day, we will come back and practice in wet conditions and come back for the final game.

Deandra Dottin: It feels really good. We always like to come from behind, I guess. We reflected on what went wrong (in the first game), what we needed to do and tried to stick to the basics (tonight). The girls, I guess, are feeling really good (after tonight and squaring the series). (What changed) The determination that we have. We don't like losing and we were hungrier and wanted it more. We do not stress on the negative result but always try to go forward positively and win the next game. (On catches going down) Sometimes, we get to the ball too quickly (smiles) and drop some catches. Catches win matches, these (drops) things happen in cricket, so we have to focus a bit more (on holding onto catches). (On Joseph) She is absolutely brilliant, and we encourage her to keep doing what she is doing and keep hitting those big sixes.

9:59pm Wow. Just wow. That is perhaps the first exclamation that comes to mind after seeing West Indies' batting effort. Joseph butchered the bowlers during the powerplay and while Matthews also found the fence regularly during that phase, it was after her opening partner's dismissal that she truly grew into her own. She accessed almost every area of the field and some of the strokes she played will live long in the memory, especially those that she played on the off side. Campbelle stitched together a handy cameo too, but this night belonged to Hayley Matthews and her genius.

West Indies were irresistible, make no mistake about it. But India will not be happy with their ordinary display. Their bowlers bowled both sides of the wicket and at times, seemed to bowl without any constructive plans. Their execution was not much better and they will have a fair bit of introspection to indulge in before they reconvene on Thursday, when the series will be on the line.
