3.08pm England go into a huddle, one final call to arms from Joe Root. James Anderson to take the new ball - there was a lot of concern about his fitness yesterday. We shall see soon enough ...
3.04pm Welcome back to the Gabba for what could be the final, final, final chance for an absorbing contest to take a decisive twist. We're unlikely to wrap this game up tonight, but England could be out of the reckoning unless they strike hard with the new ball. Over to you, Jimmy and Broad...
Todd: "The TV announcers listing the "highest successful run chases" emphasize the wrong thing, and makes it look like England is in good shape. They are NOT. Odds are heavily in Australia's favor, for this simple reason: The fact of the matter is at the Gabba, a target of 170 has been set for the fourth-inning batting team only 14 times out of 44 tests in which a 4th innings has been played... and EVERY time a target of less than 170 has been set for the fourth inning, the team batting has won." Good point well made. Australia's magnificent record here makes fourth-innings stats redundant. The game is never really in doubt by this stage. The fact that England aren't completely being written off here is a credit to the fight they've shown.
Matt: "Andy, after reading through all the comments whining about your impartiality, I was wondering if there was one game in particular that you've commentated over the years which stands out in this regard? You must have had some games where you just trawl through thousands of them!" Oh God no. They all blur into one in the end!
That's tea. England's last four wickets fell for 10 runs. Australia will need 170 to win. A very effective mopping up job from Australia. England's middle order threatened to build a stronger lead, but none of the batsmen could convert. Nathan Lyon kept chipping away then Mitchell Starc did his stuff against the lower order. That Moeen stumping, predictably, has generated lots of debate and conversation on social media. Wobblyline and bulge-gate are just two of the many names being bandied around. Back with you shortly.

England nine down, so the session will be extended. Maybe not for long if Starc has his way! Yashwanth: "What are the odds of 200 lead" Slim, now. Three wickets in 16 balls, three in 10 for Starc
