The late onslaught ensured Sri Lanka don't squander the advantage and not let middle order work go to waste. It looks like a pretty competitive and defendable total, giving Sri Lanka a great chance to finish the series on a high and bag a consolation win before the all-important Champions Trophy. Nissanka set the tone with a quickfire fifty and then Kusal Mendis built on that, making a pivotal contribution as well. Liyanage was responsible for taking Sri Lanka close to 300. For New Zealand, Matt Henry was on top of his game while Santner did what he does best: kept the ball away from the hitting arc and cleverly changed pace, befuddling batters with his cunning and subtle variations in pace and length. There were passages between the innings when Sri Lanka lacked fluency, with moments of feast or famine, but they will be pleased with what they mustered in the end. A lot of bright spots and positive signs for the visitors and now it's up to the bowlers to step up and produce a spectacular show
