Lakwin: "What a selfless, influential innings by Mathews. Didnt try to harvest the strike in search for a century. My mind runs back to Lords 2012, when he was trying to harbour the strike to a young Chandimal -- for Chandimal to get his 100!"
Gaja: "Both 100s of Mathews came in losing cause. I am afraid that it could be the 3rd instance" -- You can breathe easy now, I guess :)
6.09pm So Sri Lanka finish on 299. They've batted excellently, particularly their captain Angelo Mathews who seems to have found some of the form of his best years, and they've set South Africa a task no team has ever completed at the Premadasa Stadium. India's 288 in 2012 is the highest successful ODI chase here.
There's plenty of turn here for the spinners already, and they could get even more help in the second innings. South Africa's quicks weren't particularly impressive either, I thought - I have a feeling this will be a very difficult chase if Sri Lanka bowl with discipline. Anyway, join us again when the second innings begins. Alagappan Muthu will take you through the start of the chase.
A Dananjaya run out 5 (2b 1x4 0x6) SR: 250.00
Mathews is on strike for the last ball. Can he hit this to the boundary?
Round the wicket to the left-handed Dananjaya.
The batsmen crossed over, so Mathews is on strike on 95. Akila Dananjaya is the new batsman. Fine leg is inside the circle.
MD Shanaka c Duminy b Rabada 21 (15b 2x4 1x6) SR: 140.00
A substitute runs onto the field to enable Mathews to change bats.
Sri Lanka need 10 to get to 300, and Mathews needs six to get to 100. An interesting way to begin the final over. Here's Rabada.
