Lakwin: "What a selfless, influential innings by Mathews. Didnt try to harvest the strike in search for a century. My mind runs back to Lords 2012, when he was trying to harbour the strike to a young Chandimal -- for Chandimal to get his 100!"

Gaja: "Both 100s of Mathews came in losing cause. I am afraid that it could be the 3rd instance" -- You can breathe easy now, I guess :)

6.09pm So Sri Lanka finish on 299. They've batted excellently, particularly their captain Angelo Mathews who seems to have found some of the form of his best years, and they've set South Africa a task no team has ever completed at the Premadasa Stadium. India's 288 in 2012 is the highest successful ODI chase here.

There's plenty of turn here for the spinners already, and they could get even more help in the second innings. South Africa's quicks weren't particularly impressive either, I thought - I have a feeling this will be a very difficult chase if Sri Lanka bowl with discipline. Anyway, join us again when the second innings begins. Alagappan Muthu will take you through the start of the chase.

Rabada to Mathews, 1 run, OUT, Not quite. In the blockhole, angling into the batsman's feet. Gets his front leg out of the way and whips it hard, but straight to deep midwicket, and he can only pick up one. Dananjaya rushes out of his crease for a non-existent second - was worth the effort, I suppose - and ends up run out off the final ball

A Dananjaya run out 5 (2b 1x4 0x6) SR: 250.00

Mathews is on strike for the last ball. Can he hit this to the boundary?

Rabada to Dananjaya, 1 run, another bouncer, angling into the batsman as he backs away from the stumps. Pulled in the air, on the bounce, to deep square leg

Rabada to Dananjaya, FOUR, greets him with a bouncer, angling in from wide of the crease, and Dananjaya responds by backing away and ramping it over the keeper. Top shot!

Round the wicket to the left-handed Dananjaya.

Rabada to Mathews, 1 run, slower short ball outside off, pulled hard but straight to deep square leg

Rabada to Mathews, 1 wide, length ball angling down leg. Mathews can't put bat on the flick

The batsmen crossed over, so Mathews is on strike on 95. Akila Dananjaya is the new batsman. Fine leg is inside the circle.

Rabada to Shanaka, OUT, full on leg stump and that is... out. Makes himself room to hit down the ground, which he manages, but the full length doesn't allow him to get underneath it enough. Long-on takes the catch moving to his left

MD Shanaka c Duminy b Rabada 21 (15b 2x4 1x6) SR: 140.00

A substitute runs onto the field to enable Mathews to change bats.

Rabada to Mathews, 1 run, full, fairly wide outside off, Mathews can't quite middle this drive and it rolls slowly to the left of extra-cover

Sri Lanka need 10 to get to 300, and Mathews needs six to get to 100. An interesting way to begin the final over. Here's Rabada.

Dala to Mathews, FOUR, short again, outside off, and Mathews just about finds the gap between long-on and deep midwicket with this pull, despite a desperate dive from the former fielder. Moves into the 90s too

Dala to Shanaka, 1 run, length ball on off stump, clears his front leg and swipes this in the air, on the bounce, to deep midwicket
