6.10pm: A strange old day, this one. Pakistan stumbled, then they soared, lifted on the wings of a superb stand between Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq; South Africa hit back, and there was the expected collapse. But Babar Azam showed his class with a punchy knock, even as the lower order disintegrated around him. Not only did Pakistan cross 200 for the first time in the series, they erased the deficit and made sure SA would have to bat again... And they've ensured we'll all have to come back in the morning, too [cancels trip to the Leftorium]. Miller has been trying to make sense of it all in his report, and we'll pick this up again tomorrow. Thanks for your company, as ever. Bye!

6.03pm: That's it, they're going off! The umpires have signalled stumps! Faf du Plessis doesn't look too happy, neither do his team-mates, but I believe it is the umpires' call - and they obviously think getting 41 runs in less than 20 minutes (once you factor in 10 for the changeover) was too big an ask. Borderline farcical, of course, but that's cricket. We'll have to come back in the morning for South Africa to knock them off

"Against all odds Pakistan crossed 200 for the first time in the series, avoided the innings defeat and took the game to 4th day," cheers Muhammad Shahid. "Indeed an improvement."

Ang chahal: "I think De Kock signaled Fat not to go for the target tonight." Don't think it's his call... but he certainly wanted to when Big Vern thought he'd removed Abbas

Rabada to Shaheen Shah Afridi, OUT, short, swung up and away... collected by Philander on the run at midwicket! That's job done for the bowlers, no doubt about the no-ball this time, but that might well be it for the night, too

We're approaching the scheduled close... Though we can still go on if the umpires think they can get a result

The floodlights are coming on at Newlands, reports Liam. I'm not sure SA are going to have enough time to get 30 or 40-odd tonight
