We're ready for the chase. Alex Malcolm is back See you in a bit!
Chad: "OK here we go with DLS question #232... If Australia faces 17 overs and India also face 17 overs, why does there need to be an adjustment up, for DLS? " --- Because Australia didn't start their innings with a 17-over limit in mind. So you have to adjust for resources accordingly.
Richard: "My understanding of DLS is that wickets AFTER the interruption wouldn't affect the target, because the 'loss of resources' has already happened. After the interruption they only had 5 balls left, and lots of wickets. Their reward for having lots of wickets left is that they can, and should, go crazy." --- Yes, my information was half-baked. That wicket will come into the picture IF there is another rain break. Thanks for pointing it out.
8:09pm India will chase 174. In 17 overs. It'll be a five-over Powerplay. Two bowlers can bowl four overs, three can bowl three.
ABHISHEK kumar : "Will fall of wickets now effect final DL target??" --- Yes. Addendun: If there is another break.
GJ Maxwell c Kumar b Bumrah 46 (24b 0x4 4x6) SR: 191.66
8:04pm We're ready. Maxwell to face. Bumrah has the ball.
Gv: "There will be criticism on Kohli's Captaincy for not using the bestbowlers"
Mit Thakkar: "Varun, what do you think India is chasing in 17 overs if Australia ends up at 163/3 after 17 overs?" --- India will chase 179 in that case.
7:57pm Australia will bat five more balls. It is now a 17-over game. Their score will be adjusted for DLS after those five balls are bowled. Resumption in a few minutes: at 8:05pm.
Perry : "I am at the Ground and actually its looking clear with no rain.. bring it on"
Rahul: "I am at 3850 (Singapore) miles away from Gabba and it just started drizzling here :p." --- Big if true.
Ajay Singh: "Either Ashwin never gets any jokes or he thinks everyone on this earth is stupid. "

Ashwin with the straight talk.
7:37pm More covers coming on now. Oh well.
7:34pm The umpires are on, with folded umbrellas. I still see covers.
Omar: "I'm in Brisbane a few minutes away from Gabba, the rain has slowed down, and as per the map, it should pass. However, Gabba was in the eye of the Storm, so it would have had a bucket loads."
Nitish Kholkute: "Kohli is the most undroppable(if that was a word) player in world cricket not just the Indian team. Definitely agree that captaincy should be experimented with. Rohit in T20 and ODI, Rahane in tests."
Glenn Keppel: "For people not from Brisbane, the weather graphic is showing some serious thunderstorms passing over. Look at the top red rain band - the Gabba is just below it."
Marshall Raja: "Varun I'm poor in reading anything that closely resembles a graph/diagram. Could you make it simple for me. Will it last or pass away." --- It suggests that as of 11 minutes ago, the passing rain was heaviest over Brisbane.
PRP: "@wcpak: No Kohli in the team?? What has he done so horrible as batsman for the team in T20I? Any better replacement you'd like to suggest to the selectors?"
Saurabh Sinha: "Could sb please tell me about rain if it is a passing shower or is ir here 2 stay?" ---
Weather graphics here
wcpak: "In my opinion, Rohit should be the captain in T20 and Kohli should not be inbthe team at all. Even with the best team in RCB, Kohli has nothing to show in IPL."
Vivek Raj: "Hardik in place of any batter will be good for India with 2 all rounders and 4 proper bowlers. Unfortunately he's injured..."
Kohli is not a big fan of match ups but Rohit is. In this format I believe it matters a lot. Kohli has a set template to his captaincy.

Bumrah has dismissed Maxwell 5 times in 33 balls and has scored just 38 runs. Kohli has erred in that decision in my opinion. #AusvInd
Rajat Saxena: "Really bad day in field. Couple of dropped straightforward catches. Then Maxwell's hit for caught has hit the spider and misfields as well. Specially Khaleel, Krunal and Kohli not having a great day in field."
Nax: "What a poor effort from India. Haven't done the basics right. Misfielding, dropping simple catches and bowling short and half volleys. "
TJ: "The shortest Maxwell 6 was 86m. Wouldn't be too worried about the boundaries. "
Rizwan: "@Shouvik G, the backup batter in the team is M Pandey who doesn't bowl either. And as Rohit doesn't roll his arm over these days, it compounds the problem even more!"
7:05pm And with that, the groundstaff have run out with covers. It's raining down at the Gabba. A tense team meeting for India to have now, no doubt. Maxwell and Stoinis have clobbered them.

Abhishek Shukla: "Why India doesn't go with part time bowlers like Rohit Sharma instead of persisting with run leaking bowlers to give more and more runs? This strategy of Kohli is very hard to understand. And its been there from last more than 1-2 years." --- Part-time bowlers are more likely to leak runs though, aren't they? Rohit has a finger injury that prevents him from gripping the ball.
Sid: "How big are the boundaries? the number of sixes hit is making this look like a really small ground!" --- Yeah but the twos should suggest it's really big. Which it is.
We have a dead ball because Maxwell's miscued shot has come down after hitting the spider cam. He sliced that, was beaten in flight and could have well been caught at long-off. Krunal has no luck tonight.
