1.15pm: From the light-blue euphoria of the World Cup final, to a white nightmare on a green Lord's deck. England have stumbled back into Test cricket, with Ireland producing a performance almost beyond perfect after being put into the field. "Get through the first session, make hay from there," would have been the message from Joe Root after winning the toss. Well, that's not quite gone to plan - as this collection of ball-by-ball lowlights proves - and England now need to summon a performance with the ball. We'll be back for that, once we've collected our thoughts, shortly.

1.10pm: England ambushed on their own patch, their shortest Test innings at home. Here's man of the moment, Tim Murtagh: [See that coming?] "No, not quite sure what's happened there the last two hours, to be honest. It's a dream to play here, but to get on the honours board, it's a fantastic first session. Thought it would take longer than that, everyone bowled really well, ball came out nicley and did a bit off the wicket. I should know how to bowl at this ground, I've been here long enough. Just get it up there, let the pitch do the work. [Mark Adair] He was fantastic, especially after getting a wicket with a no-ball early on. I didn't think I'd be on the away board when I first started playing, but I'll take it."

Here's Rumplestiltskin: "I've seen highlights of Stone in the county game. Quite a feisty chap with the send offs and whatnotwot. England are gonna need to channel that aggression into wickets quite urgent like in a short time. But he's not doing badly with the bat thus far!"
