Meanwhile, the race for the ISL playoffs is hotting up, with ATK, FC Goa and champions Bengaluru FC all but there. There's one more spot up for grabs, and a team in contention is the youthful one at Odisha Fc. Read here about how their Catalan coach Josep Gombau has made them tick since his time at the club formerly named Delhi Dynamos.

Tharindu: "Difference is Bennett's 27-run over. Without it India would have been in trouble."

Gold: "I don't understand why Scott and Colin only got 2 overs each when they were so economical? Some of these NZ tactics really confuse me."

9.29pm New Zealand need 180 to win. It's an interesting sort of target, given that India were 77 for no loss after seven overs. Having gone at 11 an over until then, the last 13 overs only produced 102 runs at 7.85 per over.

Did India bat exceptionally in the first seven before coming back to a normal rate of scoring on a slow, grippy pitch? Or did they underachieve after the start they had? The bowling definitely improved in the latter part of the innings, with the spinners stifling the scoring with intelligent lines and changes of pace, and the fast bowlers using the slower ball effectively. Alagappan will be back very soon to bring you the chase.

Southee to Jadeja, 1 bye, slower ball to finish, fuller on this occasion, and Jadeja, down the track, looks to push into the off side and is beaten by the lack of pace and a bit of turn off the surface. They steal a bye as the ball rolls to the keeper
19.5
6
Southee to Jadeja, SIX, shot! Short slower ball, angling away from off stump, and Jadeja punches it away, with arms at full extension, to find the gap between long-off and sweeper cover
19.4
2
Southee to Jadeja, 2 runs, oh dear. That's a dolly put down at deep midwicket. Length ball angling away from off stump, Jadeja clears his front leg and slogs against the angle. Santner comes in off the boundary, and lets the simplest of chances slip through his grasp

1
Southee to Pandey, 1 run, wide-ish yorker, jabbed to the sweeper at deep point
19.3
1w
Southee to Pandey, 1 wide, another slower ball. The length is better this time, but the line is wrong, too wide of off stump, and Pandey simply leaves it alone
19.2
6
Southee to Pandey, SIX, another slower ball, but on this occasion he misses his length and serves up a half-volley outside off. Not wide enough to force Pandey to reach for the ball, and he frees his arms and launches a clean, massive hit over long-on
19.1
1
Southee to Jadeja, 1 run, slower ball on off stump, back of a length. Makes a bit of room and jabs to backward point

Southee to finish, right-arm over to the left-hander.

Ravindra Jadeja is in at No. 7

Bennett to Kohli, OUT, gone. The slower balls are really gripping today. This one's slightly wider outside off, and having failed to muscle the ball to the leg-side boundary off the last two balls, he looks to go off-side this time. Can't make himself enough room to really drive through the ball, and the ball pops up at catching height to Southee falling to his left at extra-cover

Bennett to Kohli, 2 runs, slower length ball on off stump, muscled into the gap between long-on and deep midwicket, but can't find enough power to beat both to the boundary

Bennett to Kohli, 2 runs, slower length ball on off stump, swiped hard to the right of long-on

Bennett to Pandey, 1 run, back of a length outside off, jabbed through cover point

Bennett to Pandey, FOUR, short, fairly wide outside off, and that's an excellent shot from Pandey. He was moving away from leg stump, looking to make room, and ended up a long way from the line of the ball. Jumps across, and slaps the ball away to the boundary between sweeper cover and long-off, meeting the ball with both feet off the ground

Bennett.

Vishal: "I feel that the team wants to balance with at least 1-2 left handed batsman. as a result once Pandya is fit, Pant might find a spot as a batsman, with Dube and Pandey making way for the other two."

1w
Southee to Pandey, 1 wide, knows Pandey likes to stay leg-side of the ball and make himself room, and looks to make him reach for the ball with a slower ball along a wide line. Ends up bowling it far too wide of off stump

1
Southee to Kohli, 1 run, back of a length, angling into the hip to deny Kohli room. Worked to short fine leg
17.4
2
Southee to Kohli, 2 runs, full-toss on off stump, whipped away to the left of deep square leg

Rohan: "@Shane: Disagree strongly. Rohit is the difference in this match right now. This is not an easy pitch to score off. I reckon 160 will be plenty."

17.3
1
Southee to Pandey, 1 run, slower length ball on leg stump as Pandey looks to create room. Pushed down to long-off for one

Neil Chakravart: "Kohli was just caught on stump mic saying "165 bahut hai" (165 is more than enough). Interesting to see how they approach these last few overs" -- The pitch has definitely slowed down.

1
Southee to Kohli, 1 run, sees Kohli looking to make room, and follows him with a back-of-a-length offcutter that rips in like an offbreak towards his right elbow. Looks to chop into the off side, ends up inside-edging into his body and the ball almost rolls back onto off stump
17.1
2
Southee to Kohli, 2 runs, back of a length, angling into the pads, tucked away through backward square leg

Here's Manish Pandey. Southee returns to the attack.

Santner to Iyer, OUT, excellent change of pace, and Iyer departs. Hung it up invitingly on a leg-stump line, and Iyer goes hard at the inside-out drive. But the ball was slower than usual, and dropped a little shorter than the batsman expected. Through his shot early, carves through thin air, and drags his back foot out of the crease. Seifert completes a quick stumping
