3.24pm Ashwin goes past James Anderson's 32 five-wicket hauls in Tests. Only Herath, Kumble, Hadlee, Warne and Murali ahead of him. Murali of course has 67, which nobody will ever beat, but Warne at No. 2 has 37 five-fors, which Ashwin could go past.

West Indies won the toss, and have been bowled out in 65 overs. It was a disappointing showing on a pretty batting-friendly pitch. Debutant Alick Athanaze was the one bright spot for them, but it was quite bleak elsewhere. Apart from Tagenarine Chanderpaul, others just took on good balls, and perished to those risks. We will be back soon. Another debutant, Yashaswi Jaiswal, will be opening the innings for India.

Since 2015, five bowlers have taken three five-fors each on the first day of a Test, the highest number. Two of them are spinners: Nathan Lyon and now R Ashwin.

Karl: "Windies win the toss, bat first, get rolled for 150 and my gut reaction is "That's about as much as I expected"...sad times."

Ashwin to Warrican, OUT, has it carried to short leg?. Again he is hurried into playing this. This slow length ball turns it sharply, Warrican, looking to leave it, now throws his hands at it, gloves it onto the pad, and lobs it up towards short leg. Gill has to dive full length, and three different angles confirm he has his fingers under the ball. Given out. Five-for for Ashwin. No. 33 in Test cricket
