8:49pm Out come the openers. Gunathilaka and Avishka. Bumrah with the ball, a slip in place.

8.45 pm: Some innings break reading: Viswanathan Anand, Indian sport's most enduring champion, recently released his autobiography, 'Mind Master'. Here Anand talks to Sharda Ugra about his toughest matches, chess politics and whether it's possible to have friends in competitive sport.

Shikhar Dhawan says the competition for the opening spot is a very good thing and that the three openers - Rahul, Rohit and himself - 'are also very good friends' so it ensures there's no ill will.

8.40 pm: Grandstand finish by India, and this was a proper T20 innings. They shrugged off wickets lost in a clump in the middle and just kept going hard, which is ideal for a T20 innings. The Shardul innings of 22* from 8 balls was a bit of a bonus at the end, while Pandey - given a chance after a long spell on the bench - showed his worth. The stage was set by the opening duo, and Kohli decided to send all of Samson, Iyer and Pandey ahead of him. Didn't work out for the first two, and Kohli had to shore it up from No.6, which he did well until he ran himself out. The wristspinners gave Sri Lanka their only bright spark, but eventually India's batting might took them to a massive total.

2
Kumara to Pandey, 2 runs, good ball to finish but dealt with well. Yorker on the stumps, but Pandey goes deep again and punches it straight. They sprint between the wickets to get two and go over 200
19.5
4
Kumara to Pandey, FOUR, boom. Pandey's putting on a mini masterclass. That was a super shot. Dug in short, he transfers weight back and rockets it to the midwicket boundary.
19.4
1
Kumara to Thakur, 1 run, full toss on the stumps, bunts it to mid-off
19.3
4
Kumara to Thakur, FOUR, Kumara's bowling the same length and Shardul just gives himself room and swats it nonchalantly over extra cover. He's not letting India feel the absence of Kohli
19.2
6
Kumara to Thakur, SIX, whoa, that's some hit. Length ball on off, he was clearing his front foot and hit a punch on the up almost. But hit it so well that it just kept flying and went over the straight boundary
19.1
2
Kumara to Thakur, 2 runs, gives himself room and comes down the track, hits this full ball hard and straight down the ground, but can't beat long-on running to his left and tumbling to save

CSK fan: "Shardul hits sixes now but not in ipl final" - shots fired!

1
Malinga to Thakur, 1 run, yorker on off, but bowled at slower pace. Shardul's dealt with it comfortably enough, using wrists to flick to deep midwicket. Only a single though, so he'll still be on strike
18.5
1
Malinga to Pandey, 1 run, gives the bowler the charge but Malinga keeps his length shorter, so Pandey can only flat bat it to long-off
18.4
4
Malinga to Pandey, FOUR, shot. Manish Pandey's showing his class. He's going very deep, and that allows him to take advantage of this slightly shorter and wider one, cuts it beautifully through backward point
18.3
2
Malinga to Pandey, 2 runs, lovely shot, goes deep in his crease and drives it straight, showing the full face of the bat. Long on and long off both converging on it and they manage to stop the boundary
18.2
1
Malinga to Thakur, 1 run, fuller on off, he goes for a big swipe over cover, gets a leading edge that swirls over mid-off and lands safe
18.1
6
Malinga to Thakur, SIX, slam. That's been dealt with disdainfully. Slower short ball outside off and he just unleashes a baseball style swat over midwicket

AG: "No offense to Pandey but Thankur is my man! a couple of top edge 6s and we get to 200... "

1w
Kumara to Thakur, 1 wide, he ducks under the bouncer and that's been given a wide. No country for bowlers, is T20 cricket. That was a borderline call. On another day, that would have been a fine bouncer to end the over with.

On the Kohli run out: Pandey was actually raising his hand to say no run to Kohli but had to respond when he saw his captain sprinting down

17.5
1
Kumara to Pandey, 1 run, short ball on off, he stays beside it and chops it to third man

Forecaster has dropped from 191 before Kohli was out to 185 now.

17.4
W
Kumara to Washington Sundar, OUT, upper cuts it straight to third man. digs it in short outside off, Sundar makes decent connection but that's poor placement and third man gobbles it up

Washington Sundar c Sandakan b Kumara 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

17.3
W
Kumara to Kohli, 1 run, OUT, suicidal second and Kohli's gone. He was looking supremely in command but there was no need to go for that run when there wasn't one and Kohli is run out by a long way. Fuller on the stumps, he flicked it to deep square leg. There was a fielder there. Kohli was charging down for the second, probably took even Pandey by surprise. The throw was accurate and Kohli is gone

V Kohli run out 26 (17b 2x4 1x6) SR: 152.94

17.2
1
Kumara to Pandey, 1 run, full on off, he goes deep in his crease and drives it to long-on's right. The fielder moved quickly and was in position to field

amlaan: "@saurabh_42...has india finally found a good batsman for number 6 ?" - hah! something in that.

17.1
4
Kumara to Pandey, FOUR, dismissed. Too short and Pandey clears his front leg to swat a pull shot to the midwicket boundary

Raj Patel: "That 6 at 16.2 was just pure class ... Haven't seen any better shots than that in world cricket in a very long time "

2
Mathews to Kohli, 2 runs, fuller on the stumps, he walks across and flicks this to the same area as the last ball, but this wasn't hit as powerfully so it allows the man at deep square leg to run to his right and put in a sliding stop
16.5
4
Mathews to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli special bottom hand whip. Full toss on the pads and those powerful wrists come into play, as does his spatial awareness of where the fielders are to pick the gap behind square perfectly
16.4
1
Mathews to Pandey, 1 run, gets this to swerve into the batsman on a yorker length, he jams his bat down to send it to mid-on's right
