9:39am Good morning and welcome back to our coverage of the first Test. Lost five overs to bad light last evening, remember. We had a tight bowling performance from Pakistan before that, who could have had Bangladesh bowled out for a lot lesser, but will be happy with a 233 deficit nonetheless. It's looked a good batting surface so far and Bangladesh will have to do what Pakistan did - take wickets with the new ball and then apply pressure. A bit of patience and runs are available aplenty over here.
5.20pm It's stumps on Day one. The light is murky and Pakistan won't come out to bat tonight.
There are two ways of looking at Bangladesh's batting performance on the opening day of the Rawalpindi Test.
They lasted just 71.4 overs in both innings in their previous Test in Kolkata. The fact that they nearly lasted an entire day here to make 233 against a competent pace battery, should count as a massive improvement.
But when you factor in the pitch, overhead conditions and how five of their batsmen crossed 25, with just Mohammad Mithun crossing a half-century, it puts their underwhelming show into perspective.
And so, Azhar Ali and Pakistan, who elected to bowl after being influenced by the green-tinged surface that wasn't half as menacing as it seemed, take the honours with left-arm seamer Shaheen Afridi leading the team off the field after finishing with 4 for 53 in a concoction of control, variety, pace and late movement both ways.
