8.6 we have been expecting you, Mr Woakes. First over in an age, and he goes past India's best batter on tour. The ball is zipping off the pitch now. Short of a length, just outside off, Rohit fends - he has been leaving fuller balls but fends at this one - and the ball seams away to take the shoulder of the bat. As we observed, the ball did nothing in the first six overs, but it is doing things now 28/1
13.5 huge appeal, huge wait, and Umpire Illingworth raises the finger! Now then... this is tight on several levels. Robinson loved it, but it's high on the back pad... the decision was inside or outside the line... and it's umpire's call! The wicket stands. Late movement back in off the full length, shown to be hitting the off stump flush. And England have the second opener without addition! 28/2
19.4 big snick and Anderson strikes! That's outstanding from Anderson, tight line angling in, lift off the deck, nipping half a bat's width as Pujara was committed to the block. A palpable deflection but there's a pause before Illingworth raises his finger, then jubilation for England's fielders! 39/3
42.5 there's the breakthrough! Robinson finds that exquisite in-between length, and enough jag off the seam to confound Kohli's angles. He was turning the ball to leg, but the ball snags the outside of the splice, Bairstow pockets the edge, and England are on the move again! 105/5
29.6 Root takes a more difficult catch this time, but this one is coming straight at him and not between him and Burns. Jadeja is pinned on the crease, the length ball seams away, takes a healthy edge, the ball wobbles away late and is low anyway, but Root follows the movement well 69/4
49.5 outstanding take from Moeen! Low to his right, a rare appearance in the cordon pays dividends. Extra heat on that delivery from Overton, kissing the splice and fenced towards third slip, where Moeen stoops and scoops.... the third umpire is taking a long look to confirm it has carried. But the soft signal was out, and there are plenty fingers under the ball. There is a bobble, as Moeen actually completed the catch at the second attempt, which the third umpire failed to confirm. But no damage done. The end of a doughty vigil from Rahane. But 14 from 47 won't cut it. 117/6
52.6 Woakes brings out his limited-overs skills. Spots Pant advance and bowls the slower ball, and the mid-off is back too. Pant is done in, and toe-ends this hoick to deep mid-off. That is some field placement for the last ball of the over when you expect the field up 127/7

60.6 big appeal for lbw, not given out, and they have reviewed it. Another almighty swing at a length ball, this is pitched on a length and just outside off, and the movement beats his swipe to hit him high on the back leg. But the thing is it looks it has hit him high because of his braced back leg. The replay shows it is hitting leg. Finally some relief for England, and Thakur gets a big applause as he goes back after this breathtaking assault. Bumrah knocks gloves with him on the way in 190/8
61.3 finally they take a catch as Umesh has another swipe and the outside edge is headed towards Overton at first slip again, but Bairstow stick out his right glove to send Umesh back 191/10
61.1 another drop but there is a run-out appeal on too. Umesh has an almighty swing at this, gets an outside edge, which is dropped overhead by Overton at first slip. They run, but the ball has not gone too far off the slips. Burns goes back and lets rip a direct hit to catch Bumrah short 190/9

3.2 dragged on! Burns plays late again, and it is his undoing! Nips back from a full length, takes the inside-edge, off an angled bat, and India have a morale-boosting incision! 5/1
3.6 terrible shot from Hameed and now India are into England! Short, tempting the cut, but the ball gets big on the stroke, zipping off the deck, scuffing the splice of an over-urgent stroke, and swallowed by Pant. This is on now! It was a 0 to 100 stroke from Hameed, not a shot in anger up until then, then the kitchen sink. 6/2
24.3 Umesh Yadav on an absolute roll, and Rohit Sharma takes a screamer at second slip, diving in front of first. An unforced error of sorts from Malan. This is not full, not close enough to him, and he is not playing a forceful shot. Just a bit of a fiddle, and he gets the edge. Rohit dives to his right in front of Kohli and takes this clean as a whistle 62/5

15.3 bowled'im. Root has been bowled. Huge wicket. Umesh Yadav hits the top of off and middle. Out of nowhere a ball seams back in, and Root has been in a scoring mood so this one nips back in through the gate to bowl him. This is really out of nowhere with the pitch looking like it had flattened out. Outswing release in the air, and then changing its direction after pitching. Needed such a good ball to get him out 52/3
18.4 and that's that for the nightwatchman. Sees a shortish delivery, throws his hands at it, looking to cut it, gets a thick edge for Kohli to take at first slip. Not the cleanest of catches but a catch nonetheless 53/4

76.1 another wicket out of the blue for India. Thakur has been bowling these gentle outswingers away from the batters. Woakes has been letting them go, but Pope has a dab at it, and gets a bottom edge onto his wicket. India have been extremely lucky with these wickets out of nowhere in the second half of the day today. This has come just before the new ball. England lead by 59 250/8
46.5 out of nowhere, Siraj produces the wicket, and Bairstow reviews. This has nipped back a long way from a length, just like it happened with Root out of nowhere, and it beats the inside edge as he defends and traps him right in front of leg. Huge wicket for India. They have found a way to fight back again. Siraj has bowled a much better spell this session. Partnership stopped at 91 151/6
67.2 Urgh... what a horror ending for Moeen! Jadeja throttles back to 56mph, tempts him with the wide one, draws a grotesque slog-sweep, and a huge skier into the covers! A priceless incision for India, just when they were beginning to wonder where the next chance would come from 222/7
83.6 yes he goes for an attacking shot, looking for a ramp, and it seems it is pre-decided they are running for a bye if he misses. Anderson makes it easily, but Woakes is so far out of position that he doesn't make it to the non-striker's by the time Bumrah gets the throw and breaks the wicket 290/10
77.1 and England seem bent on keeping India alive in this Test. Robinson has an almighty slog against the turn and is bowled middle stump. They lead by 64, gifting wickets in the flattest conditions of the Test 255/9

80.1 the new ball strikes first up. This is a short ball, and seems to have sat in the surface and taken the top edge on the pull. It goes high in the air for Woakes to run from fine leg to long leg and complete the catch. A superb innings nonetheless, one that has put India in the driver's seat. He is just early into the pull but the shot is on because there is only one man behind on the leg side 236/2
33.6 massive nip off the seam and England are convinced! It's an instant review, and an immediate over-turn! Angling in to demand a defensive push, and nipping away to beat the stroke. Rahul is aghast as the decision flashes up. I must admit, I wasn't sure he'd touched it to the naked eye, but Snicko says otherwise! 83/1
80.6 Robinson is celebrating, but Illingworth has not raised his finger. England review. They are appealing for an inside edge onto the thigh pad and then the catch in the slips as this has seamed back in. The UltraEdge confirms the spike as the ball passes the inside edge. Robinson has given England two in one over. Both set batters gone 237/3
110.6 gone! My goodness, Moeen strikes in his first over, and it's the big fish! Kohli pushes fatally on an off-stump line, the ball slides on, kisses the edge, and Overton's bucket hands are on hand to snaffle! 312/6

101.2 close and given. Jadeja reviews. Woakes appeals for pad first, umpire Wharf agrees, but the only question here might be height. This one seams against the angle after pitching middle and leg, which means Jadeja is playing for the angle but this one holds its line a touch. Replays confirm it is pad first indeed, and the ball is going on to hit the off stump. India lose the review 296/4
103.4 given again and this time I don't think the review saves him. In fact this time he doesn't review. Just enough seam movement from just outside off to beat his inside edge. Hitting the top of leg stump. A bit too early to be looking to play to midwicket, you'd say 296/5

137.3 clattered back at Moeen! That was inevitable, the milestone achieved, Pant stepped on the gas, but his attempted launch over long-off ended up as a hard hack through the line. A very sharp take from Mo, that was travelling quickly and required a reverse-cup to swallow it 414/8
136.5 edged straight to slip! Easy peasy, tossed up on a good length, a bit of overspin outside off to kiss the edge, and Overton's buckets are in business again. Golden Arm should have brought himself on half an hour ago! 412/7
148.2 oh finally the torture ends for England. Slices a drive straight to short cover. Umesh falls for 25 at better than run a ball 466/10
145.6 short-arm pull to a short-of-a-length ball, but straight to mid-on. Some relief for England, but Bumrah has scored a classy 24 450/9

61.3 beaten and bowled! Outstanding from Jadeja, this one really bites out of the rough from over the wicket, on a leg-stump line, and pings the top of off! That's the danger he offers when he gets it right! Hameed could have kicked it away, but was mindful of the need too for runs, and in the end he was in no position to resist the rip as he opened the face. Big moment, as India surge early in the session 141/3
53.1 tight run, big appeal. Malan dives at the striker's end. A run-out on a flat pitch. Hameed pushes this towards cover and sets off. Agarwal lets rip the throw to Pant, Malan has to dive in, but he doesn't make it. I could be wrong, but Malan hesitated. Waiting for replays. No hesitation. Just a bad call. And he rersponded 120/2

80.1 Oh Beefy. What was his other nickname? Golden B**locks. Thakur has bowled that golden ball here. For the second time in the match, he has had the most dangerous-looking batter play on. This is a gentle delivery, on a length, outside off, Root opens the face, looking for a single to third man but all he gets is the inside edge. Slow off the pitch as it can happen on day five. Does Ian Botham have another nickname that Thakur can appropriate? 182/7

64.5 done him! The full length splatters Pope's stumps, and Bumrah has 100 Test wickets! The angle into the right-hander, nip off the seam too, and a deflection off the back leg completes the castling! Pope was resolutely fending off the stump-to-stump line, but this one just had too much heat on it, and he was found wanting! 146/4
66.3 stunning yorker! Extra effort, inswinging at pace, and bursting clean through Bairstow's static feet! It's yet another duck against India for Jonny. And now this contest is cooked! 146/5
67.2 hard-handed poke, straight to short leg! Oh my, this is a catastrophic collapse! Jadeja finds the perfect line and length, bite out of the rough, lifting into the gloves, a fat deflection and this game could be done by drinks! 147/6
84.1 and India have taken one more with them. Another bowling change brings a wicket first ball. Sharp low catch at short midwicket. The trap has been there and has been obvious. India swinging it into the stumps with catching men in front of the wicket on the leg side. Woakes tries to keep it down but fails. Rahul dives low to his left to take it clean as a whistle 193/8
