10.35pm: Time for some presentations, starting with Australia captain Aaron Finch: "It was [frustrating], conditions kept geting worse. Would have been nice to play a full game but not to be. Fielding was good, bowling was really good as well. Credit to England, though, they outplayed us in all three games. [WC prep] Feeling really good, important we take some time to freshen up as a group. Trying to get away from the game for a couple of games and recharge for the World Cup."

England captain Jos Buttler is named Player of the Series: "We've enjoyed it, making some good strides in Pakistan and came here and continued that form. [Restart alongside Stokes] Only two-and-a-bit overs left, just go as hard as we could. Unique sort of game, shame we couldn't get a full game in. [Stop-start] Can be difficult, just got to accept it. For everyone, the carrot of the World Cup is close. Got to be careful with conditions. [Woakes] Brilliant, knew they'd come hard, there was some early swing and he got the rewards."

And that'll wrap things up for tonight. The World Cup is almost upon us, the first round beginning with a double-header in Geelong on Sunday. Be sure to join us for that - for tonight, from myself, Alex and Raghav, it's time to go. Thanks for your comments. Cheerio!

10.25pm: Match abandoned, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Although, for Australia, the washout does mean they avoid losing the series 3-0. It's been a mucky night at Manuka, and it ends seven balls shy of producing a result. England will be the happier of the two sides as they head to Brisbane for a World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan; they have won six out of their last nine completed T20Is, and might feel they would have edged this one, too. Australia, the defending T20WC champions, look slightly short of a gallop - but still time to get their ducks in a row before the pointy end of a home tournament

10.21pm The umpires are heading out for a look but not much movement from the ground staff. Alan will step in to keep you posted.

10.18pm Covers are down and everyone is under umbrellas just waiting out the rain. The ground staff have headed off. We're going to struggle to get back on. Gnasher says it has lightened off but it needs to stop before the covers can come off.

10.09pm Rain halts play again. The players trudge off and the covers come on. We need 5 overs for a game. Australia are miles behind on DLS but if we don't get 5 overs it will be a no result. The big square covers are coming on now. Fox are saying that we need a restart by 10.39pm to be able to bowl the 7 balls needed for a game. The target for Australia under that scenario would be 52.

END OF OVER:
12 | 9 Runs | ENG: 112/2 | RR: 9.33

  • Ben Stokes17 (10b)
  • Jos Buttler65 (41b)
  • Glenn Maxwell2-0-21-0
  • Josh Hazlewood3-0-36-1

9.41pm: So England's senior pair walk off, presumably able to chuckle about that last ball. We're hearing the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern recalculation has totted the score up to 129 - so Australia will need 130 to win and avert a series whitewash. Don't suppose there'll be much of a turnaround, so grab yourself a cuppa and then join Alex for the start of the chase

1
Maxwell to Stokes, 1 run, mullered down the ground, Stokes thinks it's four... but long-off is across, and he hasn't moved! In fact, he was walking towards the dressing room. Eventually he completes a run, but then slips over, before going looking for a non-existent second. Maxwell breaks the bails and Stokes slopes off thinking he's been run out. He in fact got his bat back, but that was some low farce to finish this soggy England innings
11.5
1
Maxwell to Buttler, 1 run, slung down, 98kph and heaved across the line, thick-edges one through square leg
11.4
2
Maxwell to Buttler, 2 runs, darted flat from round the wicket, belted without timing towards long-on. They hustle two more
11.3
2
Maxwell to Buttler, 2 runs, slogged leg side, lands safely... an almighty hack across the line but it's more height than trousers, falling well short of deep square/midwicket
11.2
1
Maxwell to Stokes, 1 run, fired in as Stokes looks to come down, a thick inside edge skews to short fine leg
11.1
2
Maxwell to Stokes, 2 runs, tossed up and Stokes sweeps aggressively, gets it away for a couple

Maxwell continues...

England get the big over they needed, 22 off it. Can they get up to 120?

6
Hazlewood to Buttler, SIX, munched into the crowd! Short ball into the body but Butter was waiting for it, slammed six on to the grass banks at deep midwicket!
10.5
2
Hazlewood to Buttler, 2 runs, slower ball, hammered through the covers, Maxwell is giving chase... and pulls off a sensational sliding stop, one-handed and then up in one movement to throw it in. Superb stuff, and with his injured hand, too
10.4
2
Hazlewood to Buttler, 2 runs, full and straight, Buttler digs it out back down the ground, long-off comes across
10.3
4
Hazlewood to Buttler, FOUR, full and squirted away, three in a row - Buttler moves to fifty! Wide line and he throws the hands, gets enough to steer it between two men on the edge of the ring. Second half-century of the series, from 35 balls
10.2
4
Hazlewood to Buttler, FOUR, short ball, whumped through square leg! Back of a length, 132kph/82mph and flicked into the gap. Hazlewood had just moved one of his leg-side boundary riders to long-off
10.1
4
Hazlewood to Buttler, FOUR, launched towards wide long-off, Buttler sits back and clubs a slower ball to the unguarded part of the ground

Hazlewood to bowl the penultimate over. Maxwell is still holding his hand down by the boundary rope

Maxwell to Stokes, 2 runs, drilled straight back past the bowler, bisects long-on and long-off for a couple more. Maxwell took a stinger on the fingertips, it seems

"It's time for Universe Jos," hoots Afeef

6
Maxwell to Stokes, SIX, blam! Into the crowd leg side! Dragged short and Stokes seizes on it, hammering a flat pull for his first boundary

Maxi to Stokesy

Here come the Aussies, hands firmly thrust into pockets. They've got to get warmed up to deliver these 14 balls, then it'll be back indoors for a mug of cocoa, from the looks of it. Stokes and Buttler heading out, too, swinging their bats

9.22pm: Play will resume at 9.30pm local, don't go anywhere (although, fair warning, Gnasher says there might be some more rain incoming)

"Even with DL method, I feel England are at a big disadvantage here after being reduced to 12 overs a side. The best they can hope is for the rain to start again and cancel the match." They might get their wish, Ajay. But to be fair, there's not a lot to lose in having a crack at defending a rain-adjusted target in a shortened game. Might have to do it in the WC, after all

9.10pm: Umpires are out and having a chat, pitch is now uncovered. Looks like we might be back on soon enough. Gnasher relays that the game has now been reduced to 12 overs per side, so this England innings is almost done. Not sure exactly when they're restarting, "10 or 15 minutes" is the suggestion on BT Sport

9.05pm + 30 sec: "Covers being removed," he adds. So that's a positive sign

"Absolute madness that the ICC still lets Australia host cricket matches. They should play in warm, dry countries like England only." Loving your work, Duncan Ward

9.05pm: "Still very steady rain," reports Gnasher. "This should clear through shortly, but there is more behind it."

9pm: Seems like the rain has actually set in, from the pictures we're getting. The bucketheads are amusing themselves by building bucket towers in the stands.

"Surely, Gnasher is the dog from the Beano? Do you let him sit on the cricinfo furniture if he's a good boy?" As I said previously, Kyle, any resemblance to an Abyssinian wire-haired tripe hound is entirely coincidental...

8.50pm: Sounds like this might only be a brief interruption - although we're already in the territory of losing overs. The square has been covered and it's drizzling steadily. Sit tight, folks

Sam: "Gnashing teeth aren't necessarily a response to anger, but built-in seething pain." Yes, actually, I think Gnasher does a good seethe

"I always figured the 'Gnasher' thing was because I sounds like his surname and the staff at cricinfo are a tad more imaginative than the classic cricketers 'add a y on the end' form of nickname generation..." Miller would certainly have never settled for "McGlashany", er, Tiggsy

Uh-oh... Looks like the rain has returned. Yep, on comes the tractor pulling the covers, we're going to have another delay

Zampa to Stokes, 1 run, googly, wide of the stumps and Stokes angles the bat for one to short third. Pretty tight at the bowler's end, had it been a direct hit
8.5
2
Zampa to Stokes, 2 runs, full and quick, 99kph on the stumps, Stokes whips through midwicket for his first runs

"Gnasher - could it be because he gnashes his teeth, before/while/after playing a shot in anger?" I don't think anyone has ever seen Gnasher lose his temper, Kalyanaraman

Zampa to Buttler, 1 run, tossed up and Buttler is forward and flat-bats through the off side
