6.02pm Innings break That looks an excellent score on an unusually dry SCG pitch that was holding and reversing at the end. Steve Smith held the innings together with 94. Marnus Labuschagne played the most fluent hand of the afternoon making 58 while Mitch Marsh made a gritty 50 as the pitch slowed. Ashton Agar finished very well with the help of Adam Zampa's running. Woakes and Willey were excellent for England late. Adil Rashid was very good with three wickets. Liam Dawson bowled a good spell.

Steven Smith on Fox: "It felt quite difficult out there to be honest. It was reverse swinging after 25 overs, it was quite two-paced, spin was a bit stoppy and then one would skid, so it was a difficult wicket. Hopefully that's enough. It was tough to time the ball at times. I think the guys finished well there."

Dave: "270 is an excellent score on this wicket. I was talking about it being very defendable when Aus had 170 on the board. If England chase it under lights they fully deserve their win."

Tautoru: "Good total after things threatened to fall apart for Australia following the loss of Smith's wicket. Great fight back by Agar. Hope he can also contribute with his bowling. "

Alan will be back for the start of the chase.
