It might have been worse for MI had it not been for Tim David's late cameo of 28 off 14, but that the situation had got so dire in the first place was potentially down to David being left to enter so late. Despite MI getting off to a rapid start, the Vipers did well to pick up regular wickets, before strangling the batters through the middle overs. Ambati Rayudu and Akeal Hosein put on a stabilising partnership of 49 after MI had stumbled to 58 for 4, but that came at barely over run-a-ball. Luke Wood and Matheesha Pathirana both picked up figures of 2 for 32, while Amir ended with 3 for 26 having picked up a pair in the final over. Wanindu Hasaranga with 1 for 19 was also miserly, with only Shaaheen Afridi out of sorts, going wicketless for 39.
