England roared off at more than 10 an over in the powerplay but were steadily dragged back by spin through the middle of the innings before NZ's quicks rediscovered their composure at the death. Jonny Bairstow's 73 off 41 was the standout innings, but the struggles of the rest of the order will - paradoxically - encourage England that they have a defendable score on a gripping pitch.
