9:11pm A sensational and well-rounded batting effort by Washington Freedom. It started at the top with Head tearing into the bowlers inside the powerplay. Smith only faced five balls during the first six overs but held firm at the other end, allowing Maxwell to dominate the middle overs. Smith then grew into his own and ended with 57 off 40. Pienaar also contributed at the death, and his 21-ball 33 enabled Washington to breach the 200-run barrier.

An underwhelming bowling display by the Super Kings. None of the bowlers, barring Mohsin, could exert the control they craved, even though Bravo did hold his own at different junctures. Noor picked up three wickets but also dished out a few in the slot, which given the help on offer for the spinners, could yet prove costly. TSK now have a task on their hands and will have to mount the highest-successful run-chase this season to qualify for the playoffs. Join us in a bit for the second innings.

Glenn Maxwell: Head made it look pretty good at the start, not much should be read into that (smiles). There is a bit of stop and hold and a bit of inconsistent bounce, hopefully we can use that. (On how he tackles spin) Just put them under a bit of pressure, make them change their lengths. Two openers going well, that is the beacon of success (for a T20 team) and that is why we are at the top. Very happy (with the total), there is enough in it for the spinners.

Stoinis to Mukhtar Ahmed, 1 run, dropped! Slower bumper on middle and leg that just does not arrive. Mukhtar is way too early into the stroke and gets a top edge that loops to Conway's left. He gets both hands to it but spills the chance. Costs TSK just a run, though

Bravo to Smith, OUT, Bravo gets the better of Smith! Short, wide and pushed across the batter. Smith tries to access the vast open spaces on the off side but ends up trying to hit it too hard. All he manages is a healthy nick that is pouched by Conway. The wily, old fox is doing the trick again!
