3:51pm "They have left about 20 runs," is Lisa Sthalekar's verdict about Brave's batting. It was an innings of three different segments. With Mandhana in the middle, they were on cruise mode with the opener belting all the bowlers around.
Here's Smriti Mandhana on the sidelines: "I was timing the ball well. When you get a first-ball boundary, really helps the confidence. When you fall in the forties it is a crime. It is just 100 balls, and our job in the powerplay is to get as many boundary as possible. Kappie is a good bowler and hitting her for a first-ball boundary gave me confidence. This is a different format. The first match last year was very confusing but now we have gotten used to it. Less running to do as a fielder. This is a good score because the pitch was not as good as it looked like. If you bowl well it turns."
Mandhana had managed to score 46 off the 69 Brave had managed when she fell. Invincibles then applied the squeeze through Smale and Villiers. But Kemp's onslaught towards the end and her 45-run stand with Adams helped Brave cross the 150-run mark that should help them feel confident. Is the target beyond a van Niekerk-less Invincibles already? We'll find that out soon!
