Oh, it has been a remarkable recovery from New Zealand after losing wickets in quick succession following the 10th over. But then they started a major rebuilding effort and got back in the game with some pretty handy partnerships. They navigated their way through choppy waters and then got into a commanding position, some useful cameos in the end have got them a pretty decent total on this pitch. Afghanistan's body language tells you everything. They know they let things slip in the field after getting off to a brilliant start. This is not going to be an easy chase by any stretch of the imagination and Afghanistan will rue the dropped catches. There were at least four of those chances gone begging, and that helped Phillips and Latham forge a crucial partnership in the middle. Ashish Pant will be back shortly to take you through the start of Afghanistan's reply with the bat
Sampath Bandarupalli pings that for Afghanistan to win this, it has to be their highest chase in ODIs, the highest chase by any team in ODIs in Chennai and the highest ODI World Cup chase vs New Zealand
Prateek: "All I'm saying is that 290 is chaseable"
Jamie: "NZ you beauties! Adapting to the situation excellently, building a partnership, accelerating in back overs, keeping wickets in hand, posting a defendable score. Aww just love this team"
Shyam: "Relax guys! Upsets are called upsets because they happen once in a while. We cant expect teams like AFG and NED to dominate every game against the big teams..."
Mustafa Moudi: "Off-Topic: Frontline Spinners of both the sides - Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner are playing their 98th ODI Today. Interestingly, both of them bowled/will bowl for the 93rd time in ODI today !!"
Sajib: "I think most teams are missing the point that old fashioned "keep-wickets-in-hand-until-40th" approach is still releavant in subcontinet, specially on the pitches a bit on the slower side. NZ showed how to put a good total on the board on such conditions even after momentary setbacks. "
Jignesh: "Maintaining intensity through the innings (and two consecutive matches) is something that would come with experience. Also, it needs more quality players to allow for off-days. "
