8.47 pm So captain Peirson has given the Heat a fighting chance with that late flurry in the Power Surge. But it still looks like the Heat have a well below par total. Stay with us for the start of the chase. Meanwhile the feedback debate about the BBL's waning appeal continues with more feedback filtering in.

Normt: "BBL crowd issues could simply be that Australians have had enough of T20. I think it's time is slowly coming. I think we are tired of cricketers refusing to play for their various countries because they are have had too much cricket, but are prepared to play the IPL and other T20 tournaments. I understand the money available influencing their decision making, but with crowds dwindling I think the goose laying the golden eggs is getting less and less clucky."

Sunil : "Personally, I think Big Bash would be better if teams only played 7 games each then of course finals. CA got greedy by increasing the amount of Big Bash matches and international matches. The ODI series vs England so soon after the T20 World Cup was a waste of time. "

Jazz: "I actually quite like the BBL, but I've been to a few games and like rugby league it's just better experienced on TV. Not to mention actually going to a game is honestly a bit of a drag. "

Robk: "I think the BBL has the same problems that the Blast in England does, not only are your big name Overseas coming and going. But they run internationals along side it, and pull out your major homegrown stars to play tests or ODIs. Devalues it massively "

Wojciech: "I just love BBL (and I'm from ..Poland). It's the best cricket league tournament for me but.. have to say.. it lost a bit of its magic. Maybe because of these empty stadiums... Hope it's bounce back! "

Terry: "Suggest we go back to playing two games a day. One in the afternoon and one at night. Day games could be at country venues. Locals will attend in big numbers. This will shorten the season and hopefully ensure players are here for the whole tournament." Doubleheaders will be back later in the season, especially on the weekends. Hard to argue for doubleheaders on weekdays unless one of them is in Perth. Can't just expect people to take off work in the day time to attend matches and effectively turn it into a made for TV event.

Richardson to Peirson, 2 runs, full and wide, flicked away for two to break the boundary streak.

Jack: "Cricket has the novel problem of having too many T20 or other white ball tournaments whilst the same demands have for international cricket. Imagine if football had a global tournament or similar every year! It's not sustainable and players and other involved personal will get fatigued and prioritize certain area as we are starting to see"

Richardson to Peirson, FOUR, full on fifth stump, gets on a knee to smoke a drive through extra cover to the rope.

Mac: "you're not wrong @Joe... But, why shouldn't every country be allowed to have a lucrative (relative to any other domestic cricket anyways) t20 league?" There's no law against any country starting their own league. But they're all starting to cannibalize each other's player talent pool and became way oversaturated, thereby diminishing the quality.

Richardson to Peirson, FOUR, full and wide, slices a drive high over backward point and goes to the rope.

Aaron: "Instead of looking negatively at BBL how about consider it is still 1 of the best things for domestic cricket in Australia for a long time. I go along to Sheffield Shield games and there is often 80 other people there with me maximum. The domestix 50 overs comp is similar. So instead of thinking how it has gone down how about think how much better it is than anything else that is being done domestically"

Rogers to Peirson, 1 run, full length wide outside off, driven firmly to the cover sweeper for one to keep strike.

Rehan: "I think main issue is too much cricket. Australia is playing international cricket while their league is going on so main players aren't available. Why would people go if stars are not there ? Also why would people of Melbourne support two teams ? They don't have enough players for league."

Rogers to Peirson, FOUR, length ball on sixth stump, backs away for a heave over cover and launches this high over the ring. Third umpire checks and it has short-hopped into the boundary triangle for four.

Joe: "I'd say there's too many T20 Leagues nowadays. E.g. the BBL has to compete against The Sri Lankan, South African and UAE tournaments all going on at the same time. Star players have to choose between these leagues severly weakening all of these leagues in the process."

Rogers to Peirson, no run, short ball on the body, goes to pull and is hustled by the pace, goes to pull and is hit in the back of the head/neck before the ball goes through to the keeper. Peirson doesn't have the protective wraparound flap that has come into vogue since the Phillip Hughes incident and is down on his knees before the physio comes out to have an extended check.

mac: "hardly right to compare cricket to basketball with only one country really playing it, and certainly only one country offering any reasonable payoffs..." Okay, then compare it to soccer/football. Does Lionel Messi or Mbappe leave PSG midseason to go play games in a China Premier League? No. They're contracted to PSG year-round.

Richardson to Peirson, no run, fullish length ball on sixth stump swings away late and beats an attempted drive.

Tyler: "It's either that, or cost of living is playing in a factor. Back then, you'd have a bit left over so you could go and enjoy a novel night at the cricket. Now? Costs have been going up that it makes it more enjoyable to watch from home."

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Steketee, 1 run, short and wide, slapped to the cover sweeper for one.

Bernie: "Now that the novelty has worn off the BBL, the fans don't appreciate high profile players coming and going (unlike the IPL which always has the best players playing the full competition). EG Rashid Khan is leaving halfway through this BBL to go to play another T20 tournament in the middle East". This is a major problem, players not staying to play the entire league/season/tournament. Can you imagine Lebron James leaving the Lakers with five games to go to pull on a different jersey in Greece? Cricket has a unique problem where players are not contracted to franchises year-round.
