10:39 pm So the dropped chances by Short on the boundary wind up not costing Hurricanes in the end. Dooley and Shadab, the spin twins, came to the rescue to trigger an unlikely unraveling by the defending champion Scorchers.

Dan: "Perth choked that hard. The pivotal over I believe was Dooley's last. Their best bowler with a run rate around, all they had to do was see him out with a few singles. Instead Inglis and Agar throw their wickets away and hand momentum to Hobart. Hardie should have gone a lot harder to. If you're going to be caught you may as well get caught in the boundary. Mindless batting by the Scorchers there".

Here's the man of the moment Paddy Dooley, who is the player of the match for his four-wicket haul: "I just try to go out there and compete for the team, bowl my best ball. The nature of T20 is sometimes you have a good game, sometimes you get whacked. So I just keep coming out competing hard. Faf, looking at the footage pregame, we knew he was gonna try to back away and hit me over cover. So when he did that I got a bit scared but he missed it and that one went well so that was definitely a big one for me. [On his bowling action] I've always had the grip and flicked them out but probably four years ago when India were over for the summer of cricket, I was just in the back yard on Christmas Day practicing some Jasprit Bumrahs. It kind of worked for my rhythm so I just went with it and it goes all right now. If it distracts the batters when they first see me, it's an added bonus."

That's it for today's coverage. Come back tomorrow for more BBL action. Until then, I'm Peter Della Penna. Take care!

Ellis to Richardson, OUT, full in the slot on middle, goes for a big heave and skies a catch to David at long-on, who takes a simple chest height catch two yards in from the rope to end the match.

Barring a wide or no ball, Hurricanes have somehow scrapped their way to victory.

Ellis to Tye, 1 leg bye, slower ball lands full on middle, heave across the line misses badly and thuds off the pads for a leg bye.

Ellis to Tye, no run, length ball outside off, swings over the top of this.

Josh: "Scorchers losing the unlosseable". This is a really bizarre approach the last few overs for sure.

Ellis to Tye, 2 runs, slower length ball skied off a top edge pull that falls into no man's land for two.
