That concludes our BBL activity for today. When the Melbourne Stars face the Sydney Sixers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground tomorrow, let's hope for better weather. Until then, Rashad signs off on behalf of Thilak and the rest of the ESPNcricinfo staff.
8:30 pm Okay. Here comes the awful news. A strong shower is predicted on the radar to arrive shortly. The grounds crew did their best, but the rain continued, so the umpires called it a day. The points table has grown more fascinating as of today's abandoned game. With the Thunder playing seven Matches and the other two teams playing six, the top three teams each have nine points.
8:15 pm There isn't much to report from the ground, though. The rain is still falling steadily. Sam Konstas is taking selfies, signing autographs, and strolling around the fences. The ground crew members are moving around while holding umbrellas over their heads. Fans are still waiting in the rain-soaked galleries for the game to begin, or any prospect of play tonight. To check the field, the umpires are out with the umbrella.
Mark: "Has there been any word on the Canes' replacements for Hope and Salamkheil? They could cover them with locals Jewell (or Wakim) and Dooley (or Hatzoglou), usually teams find someone from overseas for a game or two though?" Mark, no update yet. We'll receive it shortly.
Matthias Chupps: "Not a player, but I have been very impressed by Claire Polosaks umpiring. She looks very level headed and I hope she'll be doing the final and hopefully some more international games in the future!"
Matt Chodds: "Lloyd Pope has really impressed me! (Apart from THAT over) he's been better than old Boycey... As an all-rounder it's got to be Dan Christian - old is gold!"
Riaan: "Luckily Nathan Ellis didn't say a lot, imagine if he had much to say and you had to sit and type it out" Riaan, that was a good one. During your break, do read it.
Rahim Chagani: "Jamie Overton has put in a few good performances but his short fuse has been entertaining to watch when it blows (which has been very often). Fierce competitor. "
Jay: "Some of the talent that isnt in the Aussie lineup could make a team that would really challenge the real Aussie team. A BBL All-Star vs Australia game to end the season could be a great new talent showcase, especially as we are not far off a transition due to a lot of older playersOwen, Sutherland, Tom Rogers (Renegades), Connoly, Bryant, Davies, Sams along with a few others could make an amazing future Aussie team!" Who's going to lead the BBL All-Star team Jay?
Nathan Ellis: "It's been a long day here in Sydney. Being from here, it's not how I want to represent the City to my Tassie teammates. A frustrating one, but hopefully in time, we'll get a little bit of a break in the rain and try and have a crack. (Chat in the dressing room) I'm hearing a lot of smack talk in the changing room at the moment (laughter). There's plenty of that. So it's actually quite nice to get out here and get a break from it in there. I mean these sorts of games are tricky because everyone's looking at different radars, everyone's got different theories on win trajectories, and how much rainfall and all that. So it's for us, it's just part of the waiting game and trying not to overthink it, I think. (Comeback after Game One) Absolutely. I think, at the end of that game, before we walked off and shook hands, I got the guys together and I really spoke about parking that game and leaving it there and that's something you can easily be a throw and come in if you let it. But to see us literally leave that game there and hit the ground running in Game Two and not look back. It's a really promising sign. But it's important now for us to continue the momentum, you know, in T20 cricket. You never go on as good as you think and you're never going as bad as you think. So, trying to keep a lid on it. (Mitch Owen) Absolutely. I was saying the other day. I've met Mitch a lot over my time and I've seen him come from a 16-year-old when I first moved down to where he is now, but I bowled to him in the nets about six or seven days ago. It was honestly like I was bowling to a different person. I just it's funny what confidence can do to a player and we all knew he had it in him. We all knew we had the potential, but the coming-of-age innings he had in Hobart against Perth (Scorchers) was extraordinary. But we all knew he sort of had it in him. (Tim David) As a playing group, we all know the power and the expectations he possesses. I think it was a really important Innings for him to do it in purple (colors) and do it in front of the Hobart crowd, to see them, get behind him to see how much he loved it. And just to say, for the Hobart fans to get a glimpse of one percent of what Tim David can do, he's capable of some amazing things. Really happy for him and it's just a norm in my eyes. (Stomach wobble) Probably the less, you know, the better. I think with that one. I missed the Sixers game with some stomach issues, which was probably the best way to put it, but I tried and I tried. No, I couldn't get up for that one but thankfully the boys put on an absolute clinical performance on that game and it was a great watch. It was a nervous watch. I definitely prefer playing than I do watching so I don't know if a coaching career is in the mix for me but really happy where we're at the moment. (Watching the BGT) I mean the three days that I was crook I watched every ball. So obviously, heavily invested with a teammate and a friend of ours in Beau (Webster) making his debut. So obviously we'll be glued to every minute and every time he's on the screen, everyone was so happy for him. A great Test Match, a great Series, one of the best I can remember. Beau epitomizes Australian cricketers. I think he's not only is he a fun guy and a great teammate but he's also an absolute competitor who wants to get his hands dirty in tough situations. I think not just the Australian changing room, but any changing room is better for having a Beau Webster in it. And I think it's a funny one as well because there are times when you get the Bellerive wicket there's a stigma of doing a bit too much or this that and the other, but It's funny the full circle moment, if you get to Sydney on a wicket, that potentially is doing a fair bit and he seems all right at home. It was great to see him do that and I'm just really happy for him as a mate and also as a fan now too. (Preparation time in a rain-curtailed game) I don't think we get the choice. I would say so (half an hour). The boys are sort of preparing and doing what they can in there to stay ready if and when the time comes. So I'd say half an hour but it's going to be the wicket getting prepared. I think that's going to be the thing and then getting the outfield roped and dry enough for us."
Keith: "Spencer Johnson. His consistency is remarkable."
Amit: "Mitchell Owen in his new role as opener has been a good find for Hurricanes and potentially Australia. Among the bowlers, Dwarshuis and Behrendorff seem to have really come into their own this season. "
Shane: "Max Bryant is finally starting to bat smart and he's becoming a really good middle order power bat. Scorchers bowling unit looks like it's got a couple of cracks in it - there's been a couple of games where they seem to have lost the plot "
Surath : "I would say Max Bryant and Jason Behrendorff! Allrounder would be Will Sutherland! " Ah, certainly, an allrounder. My vote also goes to Will Sutherland.
Let us have a little discussion while we wait for the next news from the field. In this BBL edition, which batter or bowlers drew your attention, and why? I'll start with Tom Rogers and Cooper Connolly.
7:25 pm In the middle of the field, the field covers are still securely in place. Two groundsmen are standing near the centre wicket, holding umbrellas.
Mickey D: "On the positive side, 1 point each might be handy for both teams given the standings "
7:00 pm More covers have appeared at the run-ups at both ends. Folks, this is going to be a long wait.
Mustafa Moudi: "Off-Topic: Wishing a Very Happy Birthday to Josh Hazlewood, one of the most successful Fast Bowlers of Australia across formats. Wish him a great year ahead !!"
While we wait for further information from the ground, let's look at how Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers kept the Renegades' chances alive in the BBL last night.
6:35 pm Gnasher's update: There's bad news for cricket fans! In Sydney, it is raining. To give you an overview of the present weather, here is the weather radar.
Mickey D: "Radar looks ominous...fingers crossed eh?" Let's hope, Mickey D. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much encouraging news from the ground.
After Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, young Test opener Sam Konstas returned, giving the Thunder a big boost. Additionally, Nathan McAndrew recovers from a shoulder injury. Spinner Toby Grey and batter Blake Nikitaras are dropped from the roster.
Caleb Jewell is replaced by left-arm spinner Paddy Dooley for the Hurricanes. Additionally, this will be the final BBL|14 match for West Indies cricketer Shai Hope and Afghanistan spinner Waqar Salamkheil, who are leaving to play in the UAE's T20 competition.
6:15 pm Greetings and welcome to ESPNcicinfo's live ball-by-ball coverage of Sydney Thunder vs. Hobart Hurricanes, the 27th BBL game, at Sydney Showground Stadium.
